mil Cadets Return
From Fort Stevens
On Government Boat
A group of eager relatives waited at
the foot of Jefferson street Sunday for
about two hours for their boys who
came in on the government Eagle boat
No, 38. The boys were the 140 cadets
of the Hill MHHtary academy who. had
been . to Fort Stevens for the entire
week. The trip home was made on the
.government boat. The cadets stood at
attention oil deck as the boat came in
sight of the wharf. Although the rain
came down In torrent Just before the
landing was reached the cadets were
protected by an awning and the shower
passed away before they marched home,
happy but extremely hungry.
"I'm glad and thankful to get them
all home in good condition ; they've bad
a wonderful time, but a trip like "that
is a big responsibility," stated J. A. Hill,
president of the school, who with Major
Thomas E, Cathrow, U. S. A., was In
charge of the expedition.
Hill spoke in high praise of the offi
cers of the boat and of the officers and
men at Fort Stevens. Time at the fort
was fully occupied With study, drill, a
two-mile hike each day, kitchen police
duties and military maneuvering.
The encampment is an annual under
taking and is greatly enjoyed by the
cadets. A good dinner was awaitinz
them and after the home trip "bed
looked good," aa one of the younger
lads put it.
