boxes of apples all told are held la
Portland. This includes storage and non
storaga stocks and is a very scant sup
ply compared with the normal.
While som. interests wbo nerer do any ap
ple business sre reporting a lack at aetirity in
the market just Bow, those that do the major
portion of the business say that demand ia ex
cellent and that prices are well maintained here,
wiaie iliowing advances at some primary point.
There ia . no disputing the strength oi the
spple msrkft at prurciling prices, althi.usU some
dealers anxious to take hold, are quite willing
t sire out the impression that the market is in
bad shape.

tbe Pacific Northwest are tillering apple except

ton market opened unchanged to 5 points hicher
today. A little foreicn and communion house
demand absorbed hedge and local offerings and
later the undertone ruled about steady. Week
end statistic were regarded as bearuh.
The cotton market remained dull through
the last dealings, but finished steadier at a net
advance of 6 to 15 point.
Spot cottoa was quiet today with middling 5
points higher at 12I4U. No sales.

Ikortland this week received a greater
supply of wheat than In any week since
records were kept by the local trade.
While in the distant past there was a
report of a greater supply to arrive here
within a single week, : definite figures
were not available.
This huge stork of wheat i. going export grid
there is a' demand for mora stock from prac
tically every European port. . Asia is not at all
backward about parcbaaing ana aaoiuonal busi
ness is shown in that direction.
While some flour business is reported as
passing with Europe. business is confined to
parcel lota and the volume i by no mean con
siderable at the moment.

receipts have been so general of late that at the

moving: up to above 67 just before the
close, a gain of about 4 points for tfee

40, sold down to 38 ; Mexican Petro
leum was In supply for a time, yielding
to 146. but quickly turned and rose to
148. Cosden advanced to 444. but re
acted in the late dealings. .
