TVTILLIAM KINCJDE of Oswego, when
V he lived in Kansas in years gone
by, had a garden plot about his home
in which he took great pride. Klncade
had neighbor, and the neighbor had
chickens of the aviating kind, which
could make beautiful "Jump-offs" and
fancy nose dives over a barn, say noth
ing of a fence. The chickens and the
garden didn't harmonize from Kincade's
viewpoint, and be told his reighbor so
and asked him to clip their wings. The
neighbor opined that the "chickens would
take care of themselves.
This was not much consolation ' to
Klncade. and one day as he was sadly
ruminating on -the forlorn ' appearance
of bis garden he happened to glance
Into : a grain warehouse where there
were screenings scattered over the floor.
Klncade had a brilliant thought He
scooped up a pailful, took It home and
poured it on the floor of an outhouse.
He also arranged some nice little boxes
with straw In them. Then he brought
home more screenings. Pretty soon the
boxes began to bear henfruit Kincade's
boxes bore so "well ' that he took some
of the excess fruit down to the sta
tion agent
About this time Kincade's neighbor
began to complain that his hens had
stopped laying. Later he noticed Kin
cade regularly taking a basket to the
agent
"What might you be carrym in the
basketr queried the neighbor one day.
"Eggs," replied Kincade.
"But you keep no chickens."
"I don't need to."
A few days later the chickens stopped

TEARS ago. it would be a shame to
JL tell how many. "Billy" Pangle and
Harry Terry were the crack snare
drummers of Portland. No dance was
complete socially unless George . Par
sons presided at the piano and either
Billy or Harry rolled the sticks.
As said before, years passed and W.
T. Pangle became a theatrical magnate
and H. G. Terry a real estate promoter.
They flocked in various directions about
the city so far as office location is con
cerned, but eventually they are located
under one roof. -

door and asked an explanation.
"I'm fasting." replied the little fellow,
