; Market for egga here la likely, to prove
very disappointing- to soma of the coun
try speculators who are determined to
force advances here in the face of country-wide
deprexHlon:
Owing to tli "tact that some of fw dealers
Iter hve purchased very heavy supplies of
try In the face -of decline elsewhere. They are
, not rrally seeking :egg at these high price a
their earth indicate but prefer to make the
eountry bcliere' they are and that price will go
till higher: - By tending out the latter rumor
they are able to force tbe country shippers to
holt! back their stock from market; a condi
tion that will aoon be felt here in the way of
very poor quality of held, stuff.
la th meantime there i really no keen de

on additional stock of egg and price are on

POTATO MARKETS
GETTING SUPPLY
Potato market Indicates that the price
has been stretched a trifle too high in
this territory, ' although aa high as $1.00
1.10 is still being offered for the very
best Burbanka and American Wonders
at nearby country stations.
Potato price in California hare shown a
slight reaction during the last few days be
cause of the much more liberal offering, but
it i believed that the market will not chow
any further losa for the immediate future, i
Bulk of the potato purchase here are at
flOo to 1 1.00 per cental at country (tatioaa,
Thia is for beat 'quality of the Burbanlt type.
Round potatoes even though of excellent qual
ity are not findkay bidder aba 75c pet cen
tal at country tationa. For the latter tier is
little demand in California and mixed shipment
of Burbank typo and the round stock are pen
alized in price 'in the south.
Present indication are that ail the good
potatoes of thu territory will be cleaned up
this season unless growers hold back for higher
price end thereby .check tbe present liberal
movement. -,.! . ' '

I : i ! ; -
New York. April 1. (I. N. S.) Ag the re
sult of steady cables, the cotton market opened
unchanged to 1 1 points higher today. ' It" was
stated ia private messages that the strike of
Kngliah coal miners had ' been discounted, but
rabies received reflected little confidence in the
Kuropean situation as a whole and refrained
from supporting the list aggressively.
Liverpool and New Orleans furnished most of
tli demands esrly. with the 8011th a chief seller.
After the atsrt prices eased about 3 to 7
point and at the end of the first 20 minutes
ivere about tven with la.-t nlght'a 'clnee.
Spot cotton was quiet. 25 points lower at 12
cents. No sales.
In the final lialf hour future offerings in-vV-sed

Enormoui declines were f shown for
wheat at the opening of the eastern op
tlon markets for the day. but the-market
here continues on a nominal basis
as practically all exporters are tempo
rarily out of the buying. ?
Flour price are destined for another sharp
decline in the local territory because of the re
cent severe com in the quotations on wbeat and
th liberal selling at the declines. A drop
of 40c to 60c per barrel in the prie of flour
would not be at ail surprising.
Recent secret cutting of millfeed prices has
given wsy to a better maintenance ef printed
values by local mills, indicating an outside call
for supplies.
Foodstuffs ar showing a liberal movement at
th lower prices quoted yesterday ; no further
changes being mad Friday.-

Friday trade at North. Portland.
In all of tbe leading atockyard of trie country
there wa a weaker tone in bogs at the opening

North Portland, and "there waa not enough stuff
available here to give any decided test to, former
values, which -were nominally continued.
North Portland today, continues higher than
the Eastern price basis, and this means incrasaad
stocks of Midwest hogs for local killer withih th

HON AND LAMB
OUT OF MARKET
- : , .v.-
Just what is vjrong with the lamb
market has been the subject-of much de
bate among the 'Various Interests. There,
has been a wide difference of opinion
expressed regarding the extreme stag
nation in the Iamb trade but outward
appearances are tbjat the market is be
ing manipulated. '$
' While butchers aad packers have been al
leging all along that the public did not want
mutton and lambs and gave tnla a a reason
for the lack of buying of supplies in tbe stock
yards, it. appears that there is really a call for
both mutton and lambs at this tkna and
packer have none to offer.
Tnia is a conoiuon most nnexpectea na
has caused much comment among the trade.
Retailers inauirinst for stood mutton and Wnbs
during the day were unable to secure tkrm.
V hue the prices quoted in both imes of ; tne
dressed meat trade were lo a pound below
former figures, there wa no stock to aeU at
the decline.
