FOUR CARRIERS TO
CLOSE FEBRUARY'S

Four offshore carriers will wind
up the month of February in the

proximately 36,600 tons. The Dan
ish motorship Peru will get away

inal foreign and dispatched by the

with the clearance of the Norwegian

Co. with 7800 tons and bound for
Hamburg.
The Norwegian motorship Theodore

Astoria Monday, the last of the grain
ships for the month. 9
In the coast-to-coast service the steam
ships Steelmaker and Willfaro will clear
Thursday. Both vessels are carrying
large cargoes of ties for the Atlantic
Kide. The intercoastal business is show

conference rates recently adopted at the
meeting in San Frani isco.
JORT DIlKIMafc COLUMBIA
TO BE LAUNCHED THURSDAY
The Port of Portland's new all steel,
$123,000 dredge Columbia will be
launched from the ways of the Coast
Shipbuilding company at the Foot of
Glbbs street at 11 :30 a. m. Thursday.
vAn invitation to the public to attend
the ceremony was issued this morning
hy officials of the Port of Portland.
The completion of the new Columbia
provides the port with three giant suc
tion dredges, each equipped with 30-inch
pumps. The fleet, is now considered
qual or superior to any similar, fleet
possessed by other' ports of the United
States.
The Columbia was constructed by the
pacific Marine Iron Works and Mrs.
James H. Polhemus, wife of the manager
of the Port of Portland, will christen it.
The dredge is equipped with steel
house and hull. She has a 1500 horse
power, four cylinder triple expansion
engine, two Heine safety boilers and
Hutch ovens prepared for the burning
of "hog" fuel, namely sawdust and
waste wood from saw mills. Except that
ana has a steel house not possesed by
the other craft, the new Columbia is a
virtual duplicate of the big dredge TV ill
amette. now in the service of the port.
Much of the machinery used on the
old dredge Columbia, which was recently
dismantled, has, been placed on the new-
craft. The contract price of the Colum
bla was 415.150 and this with extras
will brine the total cost to about $425.-
000. ,Ti3 new dredge will be capable of
moving 15,000 yards of sand a day and
will prove a most important adjunct in
the improvement of the channel between
Portland and the mouth of the Willam
ette. I

monthly income from the other
rooms. It would cost the price we
ask for the house alone. The
corner lot in this location, 60x100
feet, should be worth $4000, and
cheap at that. All right, we are
offering and going to sell to the
first purchaser that comes along,
the corner lot and big to room
housekeeping house as well as the
entire furniture, everything goes
for 5100. and all you need to
possess yourself of this valuable
property is ?1000 cash, the bal

purchaser. Remember, it is on the
west side where the real property
is valuable, and this is an oppor

for man and wife to own their own
property who have Siooo cash
