-ent In the Fanned milk situation baa bad in
the batter trade. Removal of Xhe - condentary
output of butter from the Paget sound terri
torjr ha sided the situation there.
Increaae in butter demand baa been shown in
a retail war atnee.tbe laat redaction A prieee,
and leadlns local makera acknowledse that their
output ia not keeping full pace with tbe demand.
While much depends upon what San Fran

The utter weakness in the cattle trade
all over the country is appalling at this
time. Hogs are firm locally, while no
damage was shown in tbe sheep situa
tion for the day. : v. . -:;.. f : , ';.
' Developments in the eattls sitnation at North
Portland since the Monday report indicate that
the depression there on tbe opening dsy of the
week was far greater than tbe prices show and
that values ia general were from $1 to $1.25
lower instead of the 50 IS 75c that the fisnras
indicate..: . t- " " v
While it is true that steers sold ag high as
r$9 st North Portland Monday, reports indicate
that this price was paid only by one butcher
and he was evidently mislead regarding the sit
uation. The fact remains that as good steers, ss
cams into the yards Monday were sold late in
the day to California shippers at $7.85 8.00.
In fact, these animals, which were- shipped froaa
Toppenish sad consisted of beet pulp feeding,
were considered the best cattle in tbe yards.
The market at the beat waa spotted. A few
loads sold at the extreme point quoted or even
s fraction higher, but the bulk of the stock
sold at the lowest levels. - ?

Investment Bankers
Expect Bond Priceis
To Kise Steadily
Opinion among investment bankers is
general that bond prices will have a long
swing upward. This opinion ts based
upon the fact that fundamental condi
tions; point to higher prices for all fixed
interest bearing securities. There has
recently been an appreciable increaae
in the purchasing power ef the dollar.
Bond prices have not kept pace -with
the Improvement in'money value, partly
because .money has been tight and in
terest rates high. There have been many
indications of late that -money- will grad
ually become, easier, as the year pre
grresses. Duririe 1920 industrial corpora
tions were obliged . to do extensive fi
nancing; for expansion purposes ana 10
carry Inventories at higher pricea. This
source ' of demand for capital will be
greatly reduced "during the current year
Hereby - releasing- much money, which
can be diverted to other fields.
