Ited to enter into a re-lease of the
. Round-Up grounds of the city for an
: other five years, at a nominal sum. the
grounds having been originally deeded to
the city for nothing by the . association.
.Most notable of the decisions of the
association directors is the change in
price, for the first time, in grandstand
seat -prices, the . admission for reserved
' seata being raised from $1.50 to S2.
President Collins will continue in ca
pacity as competitive events director;
Vice President George C Baer as busi
ness manager. R. E. Chloupek as treas
ess manager, and Charles H. Marsh as
'"publicity manager and office head.
Collins was elected president for the

Deputy Prosecutor
Named ,f or Jackson
County Attorney
Med ford. Jan. 26. Owing to the un
precedented amount of legal work in
the county prosecutor's office, the ap
pointment of: George A. Codding '.. as
deputy county prosqutor has been sanc
tioned by the Jackson county court,
which will leave District Attorney
' Rawfes Moore free to devote all his time
to the prosecution of the many cases aris
ing out of the Jacksonville bank failure.
The county court has just authorised
the sale of $250,000 worth of Jackson
'. county road bonds on March 3 at not
less than par for various big road im
provements. The remainder of the
" $500,000 bond issue voted at the last elec
tion will be offered at a later date.
$1600, but the teller discovered some
thing wrong with the .check. When
Lawrence returned for It, after It was
supposed to be certified, he was arrest
ed. Police say the first check was
signed with the name C J. Cooper and
the second c&eck with the name W. W.
Metzger. Lawrence has been positively
identified by bank employes as the man
who presented the check.
Fond .Nearly Subscribed
Spokane, Wash Jan. 24. -At the close
of business Sunday night the Spokane
district had subscribed in ' money and
pledges $61,468, or 1st per cent of tlx
quota assigned to : the eight Easterr
Washington counties , in the Euro pea
children's, relief cam poVrn.
DREDGER ADRIFT:
IN ROUGH SEA
Marehfield. Jan. 2C. While being
towed by a gasoline boat from the
Siuslaw river tp the Umpqua river
a dredger has broken loose and la
ldrift at sea.
The dredge was one which war being
rought from the Siuslaw river to the
Umpqua river. It was in tow of the
gasoline boat Tiger and broke loose. The
Tiger put into the Umpqua river and
Tuesday attempted to go out after the
dredge, but the sea was too rough. An
attempt is being made to have the gov
ernment tender in Coos Bay go to the
rescue. Adelsperger & Conrad of this
city are chief owners of the dredge. It
is worth $10,000.
There was no one aboard as at first
supposed. The steamer Yosemite sent a
wireless Tuesday, stating that she
sighted the dredge and that it . still
seemed to be intact.

TABLES ON BANDIT
Seattle. Jan. 26. (U. P.) Al
though perhaps fatally wounded, a
bandit who was shot in attempting
to hold up the Motor Inn, near Au
burn, at 1 a. m. today, refused to
give his name to deputy sheriffs and
police in the city hospital. . Two
companions of the gunman escaped.
One Is believed to be wounded. i
A. Marco, who lives at the Carlton
hotel, Tacoma, shot the bandit. "
The three alleged- bandits drove up in
front of the Inn, two got out and the
other remained In the car. : As they en
tered the- door the two men drew their
guns and ordered four people sitting at
a table In .'. the inn to throw up their
hands. Marco, a guest, drew a revolver
and .fired twice,, dropping one of the
would-be . holdups to the floor. The
other ran outside and escaped in the
automobile with the other man. Marco
followed them, firing several shots and
riddling the auto with bullets. One shot
pierced the gas tank and the bandits
were forced to abandon the car about a
half mile from the inn.
The wounded man was taken the
Kent hospital and the woods and roads
are being scoured by deputy sheriffs.
Engineers Get Less
Than Police, Firemen
Spokane, Wash., Jan. 26. Policemen
and- firemen are paid more than civil
engineers in the- employ of the. city en
gineer's office In the new salary ordi
nance, under which current city payrolls
are being made out. . Instrument men
and draftsmen get $130 to $160 a month.
Third-year : members of the police and
fire departments, Including ; chauffeurs,
get $150 a month.
New Mill Installed
In Bandon District
Marshfleld, Or., Jan. 26. R. -B. Young
has Installed and will operate a new mill
in the Upper Two-Mile section south of
Bandon for the manufacture of both
lumber and shingles. The mill Is "located

Man Is Blown 300
Feet by Explosion
Bellingham. Wash.. Jan. 26. Archie
Gorrie, a farmer, was instantly killed
near here Tuesday, Every bone of his
body was broken and. he was blown 300
feet by a powder explosion while blast
ing stumps. '. '- "
