uary 10 to 20 was announced at the
Portland Army recruiting office this
morning. The standing is as follows:
San Francesco first with 337 then, Los
Angeles second with 185 men. Portland
third with 107 men. -Salt Lake fourth
with 83 men, Seattle fifth with 75 men,
and Spokane sixth with 67 men.

Archbishop Christie Xamed Arch
bishop Alexander Christie has accepted
the Invitation of I Morgan J. O'Brien,
chairman, to become ' a member f the
American Committee for Kelief in Ire
land, according "to an announcement
made at Catholic headquarters. The
American committee has been formed
to furnish the necessities of life to the
homeless victims ot the devastation now
being wrought in Ireland. Cardinals
O'Connell and Gibbons are also mem
bers of the committee.
Oregon Frodnets Baaiet The East
Side Business Men's club will hold its
annual banquet and election of officers in
the club rooms at 1144 Grand avenue
Thursday night at 6 :30. A feature -of
the program will be the talks on Ore
gon products by MarshaU N. Dana and
J. V. Griffith of the Northwestern Potato
Starch and Milling company of Gresham.

Xewtoa McKee Honored In recogni
tion of services performed during the
Civil war and later work in the Grand
Army of the Republic, Lieutenant New--ton
McKee of Sifton, Wash., has been
appointed on the staff of. the commander-in-chief
of the G. A. R-, as aide-de-carrft.
McKee answered the first call
for volunteers in 1861 and served
throughout the-war.

Bingham of Toronto, Canada, will speak
tonight at the Swedish Baptist church,
Wednesday night at the East Side Bap
tist church. Thursday night at Highland
Baptist church, i and Friday night at
i Glencoe Baptist ' church. Next Sunday
he will occupy the White Temple pulpit.
Dr. Bmgham is considered one of the
leading Baptist clergymen in Canada.

Son Hants Father Earl A. Sims of
Ferndale. Cal Has asked The Journal to
assist him in the search for his father,
Leonard X. Sims, who has been missing
since 1885. The senior Sims was last
heard of in Portland, according to the
letter received from his son. He is about
63 years old and of medium height and
light complexion.
Rhode Island Red Club A, meeting of
the Rhode Island Red club wUl be held
Wednesday at 8 p. m. in room A, public
library. This is the first of a series
of meetings of this kind. Specimens of
pullets will be shown. All interested
in raising Rhode Island Reds have been
invited.

portant social event of the annual con
vention of Oregon Episcopalians is the
dinner party that will take place at
6 :30 o'clock tomorrow night in the dining

'Larceny Charged te Basboy Fred G.
Popham, a busboy at the University
club, was arrested Monday, xJgbt on a
charge of larceny. B. O. Heinke, in
charge of the club dining room, com
plained to the police that Popham had
taken a quantity of silver. The boy is
alleged to have given the tableware to
Mrs. Rudolph Disch, 52S Taylor street.
Mrs. Disch was questioned by the po
lice, but no charges have been placed
against her.
