DEMOCRATIC SPIRIT IS SAME AS WHEN NATION WAS BORN C. C. Dill of Spokane fells the Jackson Club of Great Party WHich Has Endured From Start Speaking; on the spirit of democ racy, C. C. Dill of Spokane delivered the principle address at the banquet of the Jackson club lield at the Chamber' of Commerce. Saturday night.'" The banquet, attended by more than 200 diners, was the clos ing feature of the conference of the Democratic tate central committee which met in the afternoon. ; SPIItlT OF DEMOCRACT IJVES "The" spirit -of .: democracy' is still the dominant spirit in the hearts and minds of the people ; of America,-' Dill eaid.. "The Democratic party was born with the nation ; other parties have grown up, matured and passed into oblivion, but the Democratic party has gone and will go on 'forever, for It is the ideals of the common people." . ...j Austin K. Flegel, president of the Jackson club, acting j as toast master, proposed a toast to President Wilson at the beginning-of the program that was the. signal for an enthusiastic burst of applause. ' Other speakers for the evening were WHI M. Peterson from" Union county-; Miss C'elia Gavin from Wasco county and Milton A. Miller of Portland. - Miller traced the .history ot the party from' Its Inception to the present day, giving a detailed account of its different accom plishments. . .-.' CENTRAL COMMITTEE MEETS i Organisation was the keynote of the meeting of the central committee at . the headquarters in the Morgan building in the afternoon. " Plans for the organization 'of the" counties and precincts in Oregon ad the means of financing them were dis cussed. The policy Is to keep the head quarters In the Morgan building open and active .for the next two years, so the Democrats of the state may have a place to meet and that there may be a, central office for the distribution of Information of party ldeala. Dr. C. J. Smith, chairman of the com mittee, pointed out the cause, of the re cent defeat to be in the lack of consist ent organization and means for dissem inating information and plans to the dif ferent parts of the state. He also stated i that the Democratic party could not aj- ! ford (to Indorse any but the best men for political places. Instead of allowing "seekers" to be put. on the ticket. Speaking on the ideals and future of the - party Will M. .Peterson et Union : county said, "This country is. founded on democracy, and its history cannot be written without touching on the principles of the party and its leaders." HEADQCAUTERS ' MAINTAINED 'As a means of financing the head quarters it was suggested that a Demo cratic club be formed, each member to be- assessed in proportion. The plans r'-e to keep the present quarters in' the MoFpan building, under the management of William D. Bennett. I The resolution's committee of the joint conference of the Jackson club and Btate. central committees, which met in the morning, presented resolutions In dorsing the administration, reaffirming the belief in the wisdom of the legisla tion v brought about and requesting closer cooperation between the different Ktate and county organizations. The resolution was adopted. Pair Attempting Robbery of Bank I ' At Molalla Escape Molalla. ' Or., Jan. 8.- Trace of the two men who attempted to rob the Klrst National bank of ' Molalla early .
