Jan. 6. (L N. S.) A sharp reaction in Liverpool, following strength earlier, checked bnllish enthusiasm at the opening of the cotton market today and led to considerable selling by, Wall street and the South which was absorbed partly by Liverpool. First prices lo cally showed advances of 2 to 20 points ex cept November, which waa 8 point lower. An nouncement that- a bank in London had sus pended payment added to the unsettled feeling, but the market appeared to be fairly. well sus tained after the start and at the end of 20 minutes was about 20 points under the initial level on March. Realizing caused recessions toward the close, with, the ' trading featureless. The final tone was steady and showed a net gain of 15 to 25 points. Spot cotton waa steady today, 15 No sales.
