of the Portland ' Ministerial association,
a motion was carried to. observe the first
week In January as the week of prayer,
in keeping-- with the custom established

marks the beginning of the spring
church campaign, which culminates with
the- Kaster t Sunday morning service,
w hen . large ' numbers are admitted to
membership by all communions.

address a women's mass meeting. A
luncheon for the stewardship directors
of each Presbyterian church in Portland
and Dr. McConaughy has been arranged
for 6 ;30 p. m. at the Y. M. C. A. After
the conferences here Dr. McConaughy
will travel South, stopping at Eugene on
Thursday for a conference with the
Willamette presbytery. ; ' -
In the conferences 'the necessity of a
fixed and methodical system of giving

G. Everett, pastor of the Fourth Pres
byterian church, is chairman of the com
mittee on arrangements, as he is chair
man of the stewardship committee in

The ministers of the Christian churches
of Portland have ,.- organized - a min
isterial association. The officers are the
Rev. J. F. Ghormley, who has -been a
pastor in the city for 27 years, president ;
the Rev, J. I. Boyd, city missionary,
secretary. It is the plan of the associa
tion to hold meeting- twice a month for
discussion of current religious themes,
for reports by pastors, and proniinent
church workers. The. Work ot the nine
Christian" churches in Portland is to be
coordinated ' in such a way that the, re
ligious activities of this communion will
be presented .in; a more united way.
Sunday morninaf the Rev. H. H. Gnffis will
lead his eongrerfsiion at the Pint Christian
church -in a meditation for the new year. In
keeping, with Che Occasion Miss Beatrice Palmer
will render the contralto selection, "Ba Leadeth
Ms." The evening worship will include a praise
aorvica by the church quartet, followed by a
discourse by the pastor. '

'The Culpability of a Self-Called Fi
nancier Who Made an Ex-Convict the
President of a Bond House" is the topic
of Dr. W. T. McElveen'a seven-minute
prelude to the Sunday evening service
.at the First Congregational church on
Sunday night. At the morning service a
group of children are to be baptised and
new members welcomed.
Arthur E. Larimer who, 'for nine years waa
the superintendent of the First Congregational
church of Hawaii, has been elected superin
tendent . of tie First Congregational Sunday
school. ' Miss Phyllis Wolfe, soprano, and Earn
est Crosby, tenor, -become soloists' in the church
chorus. Uias Gertrude Lanning af Pacific uni
versity will address the "welcome home", meeting
of the Senior Christian Endeavor at 8:30 p. m.
A luncheon to the new officers of the women's
association will be given next Friday by Mrs.
E. N. Howe. At the meeting the association will
consider plans to celebrate the twenty-sixth an
niversary of the erection of the present ' church
edifice. '
The Lord's supper will be celebrated' and new
members, received Sunday morning at Sunny
aide Congregational church by Dr. J. J. Btanb.
Two; special New Yearg services will be given
Sunday at Atkinson Memorial ' Congregational
church. ; following the morning sermon com
munion will be celebrated and new members re
ceived. The' evening service will be illustrated
