Holiday Week Is
To Be Gayest of
Present Season

HOLIDAY festivities are In full sway
and this week promises to be one
of the gayest of the season; in fact In
many seasons. A dance of no small pre
tentions is scheduled for every evening
f the week and the number of dinner
parties and other functions planned for
New Tear's eve is greater than it has
been In several years.
I In. addition to the frivolities planned,
many of them for the entertainment of
college folk home for the holidays, the
Portland Drama leagrue will come in
'for Its share of attention and the Little
theatre will be open every evening.
The program includes a matinee for
Saturday afternoon designed to "furnish
holiday enlivenment for young: people of
whatever axe."
, Waverley Country club will hold Its
annual open house Kew Year's day,
serving a collation from 2 to 6 o'clock,
'" and the University club will give Its an
nual dinner dance New Year's eve.

' Bona, who were visitors here last sum
mer at the bome of Mr. and Mrs. Fletch
er Linn, will be Interested to know that
they have arrived at New Orleans after
a three month! trip to the Canal Zone,
Ecuador. Peru- and Chile. During; their
Journey they were special guests of the
Universities of Guayaquil. Quito, Lima,
: Santiago and Valparaiso. The Unl-
versity of San Marcus at Lima, Peru,
conferred a degree upon Dr. von Klein
Smid from the School of Philosophy
and Letters, with a ceremony full of
pomp anj beauty. From all these
South American republics the courtesy
shown these visitors was most flatter

College Ball Is
To Be Big Event
OfHolidayWeek
THE college ball, an annual event of
Christmas . week, anticipated each
year by the members of college circles,
promises to be a delightful affair of
Tuesday evening, in the Multnomah ho-
tel. The dance is sponsored by the
Woman's League of the University of
Oregon, which has engaged the entire
mezzanine floor and two splendid orches
tras for the pleasure of the guests. A i
number of dinner parties have been
planned to precede the dance, which
should be even more successful than that
of last season, Uhich was voted one of
the most enjoyable parties of the holiday
week. The valious committees report
that everything is In readiness to give
the Oregon students and alumni, as .well
as the students and alumni from other
institutions, and the upperclassmen from
the high schools, a delightful evening.

neohew of Miss Edna Groves and who

Sims. He is now representing the In

is a visitor In the city following a year's
absence in Los Angeles, where she has
been with the Metro Film company,
