State , Support for,
'Cedars' Detention
i ' Hospital Favored
. State senators and representatives,
. nine in number and representing one
; half the Multnomah delegation- in the
legislature, who visited the Cedars, the
city's ' hospital for unfortunate women
near Troutdale,. Wednesday afternoon
. expressed themselves as favoring state
support of the institution.
The state should either take the
Cedars over and operate it or Bupport
trie city ih conducting the hospital as a
state institution on the basis of a fee
of $2 a day. The remainder of the legis
'"latlve delegation will visit the Cedars
before the legislature convenes.
Admitting that most of the unfortu
- nate womert of the state gravitate to
. Portland, state officials who visited the
institution agreed the state should bear
ihe cost of caring for them, fixed at the
nominal fee suggested.
The state and city officials visiting the
Cedars as the gueat of ' Commissioner
John Mann were served luncheon by
Miss Lena Goodwin, matron, and her
staff. Those included in the party were :

Former Employe of
State Is Arrested
Salem, Deo. 23. A. C. Kelsey, formerly
an employe at the state hospital farm,
south of Salem, was arrested in Seat
tle, Wednesday, on information fur
nished, by Chief of Police Jack Welch,
charging Kelsey with contributing to the
delinquency of a minor child. Kelsey
is said to have left Salem, November 3,
In company with Generva Bailey, 16
years of age. to whom he was, married
in Seattle on November 16. Kelsey and
the girl were located In Seattle by Chief
Welch after more than a month's search.
