Frank Parsons filed a suit against

'Lillian Johnston filed suit against
James J. Turrish in the Multnomah
county circuit court Saturday, In which
she asks for $100,000 damages for breach
of promise to marry. She says August 1
of this year they mutually promised : to
marry each other, but that the defend
ant has abandoned his promise and she
is dMi-ged thereby to the extent of
$100,000. Neither of the parties to the
action Is listed in the city or telephone
directory. J. LeRoy Smith appears as
attorney for the plaintiff.

Man Accused of Concealing Ger
man Ownership in N. Y. Eve-

trial which gave th public muclt in
formation regarding British and Ger
man activities' durrag the early part
of the world war, ended here today
when Dr. Edward A. Rumely was
convicted on, two counts of an in
dictment, charging him with con
cealing German ownership of the
New York Evening Mall, for a time
under hU management.
Rumely was acQUitted on three counts.
He said he will appeal. The Jury rec
ommended clemency when he appears for
sentence next Monday.
The conviction carries .the possibility
of two years' imprisonment or a fine of
$10,000 under provisions of the "trading
with the enemy act."
The conviction was on the counts al
leging that Rumely borrowed $1,451,000
from the German government in 1915
to finance his purchase of the New York
Mail. His testimony was that he wanted
the Mail to present the German side of
the war news fairly. He was interested
in the Progressive party. His defense
was that while he had made use of Ger
man agencies in financing the deal the
money was furnished by Herman Bielcken,
wealthy American, who was residing in
Germany. Rumely confessed great ad
miration for German Institutions.
The defendant's wife was in court
throughout the trial. She received the
verdict as Quietly as he did.
Two codefendants, Norvln Leindheim
and S. Walter Kaufman, were convicted
on the same counts.

A special meeting of the committee
wilt be held at 2 o'clock this afternoon
in Hibernia hall when plans for the
campaign will be completed. This action
was taken in ans. er to fji appeal by
the Lord Mayor of Cork to the American
people.
A chapter of the Eastern Star is under
organisation at Halfway. It will take
the name "Inland" and will be chartered
with 20 members.
