IS v SHIPPING BOARD H 50 CUT ON OREGON TIES Outbound for the i Orient In th general service of the Pacific Steam ship company, the Abercoa cleared this morning with 1500 tons of flour and general cargo sufficient to make a full load. She left down the river shortly after noon and will proceed to sea Sunday morning. Shipments of ; ties from Portland to (. the East coast will probably be a fea- ture of the January shipments. The lshlppins; board has announced a cut of $2.50 a thousand by . the various shipping lines operating via the Pan ama canal. The rate was cut from S25 to $22.50 per thousand. Ties form the bulk of the lumber shipments going from the Columbia river, and at the urgent demand f Kastern buyers-for a reduction in rate in order to advance both the purchas ing and the selling end. the Bhipping board, through the ' recommendations of i the conference committee, in ses sion at San Francisco, decided on the cut of $2.50 per thousand feet. CHAMBER DISCUSSES NORTH PORTLAND HARBOR PROPOSAL Whether investment in the develop- ment of North Portland harbor would be - profitable, and whether there would be an increase in traffic resulting from de velopment of the harbor, was discussed at a meeting of the fecial North Port land harbor development committee of the Chamber of Commerce Friday eve ning: ' After a thorough discussion of the plan ' of procedure of the committee, which is headed, by George Mason, it was decided to call Percy Allen, chairman of the North Portland Industries, and Alfred Aya before the committee for concrete evidence Wednesday afternoon. After testimony is obtained from these two ..rrten. Superintendent Polhemus, Traffic Manager Hudson and Commissioner Warren of the port commission will be called upon for statements. -. OSAKA SENDS QUESTIONNAIRE FOR LOCAL BUSINESS MEN For all exporters, importers, manu facturers and producers intending to establish business connections with the port Of Osaka,' a questionnaire has been sent to the foreign trade department of the Chamber of Commerce by the mu nicipal office of Osaka, department of commerce and. industry. The " question naire contains1 a list of questions which would be asked in making any business connection. The department says that it Is ready to assist in every way pos sible development of trade relations be tween1 Osaka and Portland. ALL ALONG THE' WATERFRONT The steamship Pawlet. The motorshlp Oregon, recently ashore at Nehalem and later brought to Port land for repairs, is- reported back at the mills at Wheeler. Storm warnings have been set at all outside ports and a heavy southeast gale is looked for. The steamer Oeorgiana of the Har kius Transportation company will go . into winter quarters January 1. She will be given a thorough overhauling. The nritish steamship Orient City will take grain from Portland to the TTnited Kingdom, Strauss & Co.. pri vate terms, January loading.
