Consumers may expect to pay higher
prices for eggs again as a result of the
extreme prices ruling In other markets
and especially in the East Fresh stock
Is not coming forward as freely as the
demand Justifies and carload shipments
to the Atlantic seaboard are taking care
of whatever former surplus there was
to offer.
Poultry continues to sell at rather
low prices and apparently there is noth

Consumers continue to pay more for
their meats than the wholesale priceB
justify but retailers are still disposed to
take all the profits that the traffic will
bear. While In some of the popular
priced markets downtown some frac
tional drops in price are Indicated, most
retailers are still demanding full quo
tations. - -- '
That bakers are beginning to feel the
efect of the increase in home bread
baking is indicated by the slight shading
by some of the automatic plants. How
ever, no effort whatever is made to lower
the price of cakes and plea,' even though
practically all materials are lower.

EXPORTERS BORROWING WHEAT
Beeanse of the fact that they have sold
more wheat thaa they are able to secure
at this time, exporters of the Northwest
are In some Instances resorting to the
borrowing process to load their ships
without delay. This Is usually eonsid
ered the last desperate resort in holding
down the price.

Bakers' flour Is advanced 50c a barrel
by local mills but no change is shown in
family flours., Wheat market was again
erratic in the East during the, morning
with a higher opening, but lower values
later. ;'-
Advance of 50c a barrel in hakerr nonr to
(f) 75 ia announced bv the mills and this has
created a firmer tone and more extensive buy
ing in that line.
With the downward, trend again in the
wheat trade millers are adverse to making the
expected advance in family flour.
Noticeable in the day's trading was the drop
of. about $2 a ton again in the price of mill
stoffs with $37 now being quoted at the mills
for millrun.
Since the drop in wheat prices there has been
a lull in the selling at Pacific Northwest points.
Bf forts are being made to, scare growers by
"playing up" the fact that aocal exporting firm
was shipping two cargoes of Alberta wheat to
Europe through a Canadian port. With the
exception that the shipment is being made by
a Pacific coast port instead of an Atlantic one,
there is no change in the situation. Canadian
wheat always goes abroad. - The reason why
it is shipped from a Pacific coast port is be
cause of the better transportation rate.

Extra Fancy Apple
Is in Good Demand
Wenatrhee, Wash., Dec. 9. Joseph Stein
hardt, of Steinhardt A Kelly of New York, wires
the Daily World that the demand for extra
fancy box apples is greater than ever before, in
spite of the big eastern, barrel crop. Stein
hardt is the man who is financing IL 6. Bohlka
in his sensational, but benevolent, corner on
Wenatchee apples.
Mr. Steinhardt says about this desl: "I want
to teU you that the financing of this tremendous
deal with the Bohlke Fruit eomnany has not
been a joy ride over the Columbia highway.
However, we have now turned the corner and
we are on the home stretch. If we don't come
under the wire as winners it won't be Joe
Steinhardt's fault,
"With the grower in the saddle, where he
should have been three years ago, and a good
native-raised horse running" (H. G. Bohlke, man,
ager of the Wenatchee DUtrict Cooperative asso
ciation), I see no reason why the local talent
should not bring home the purse.
"If the growers have not the nerve to emanci
pate themselves and their industry, and have not
enough vision to appreciate the fact that the
only way they can make a Success of their in
dustry is by hanging together, they deserve all
they get and then some." ,
Wenatchee Apple
Men to Cooperate
Wenatchee, Wash.. Dec 9. The organiza
tion of Wenatchee district apple growers has
progressed to the point where it is ready to
incorporate. The name selected for the new
corporation is the "Wenatchee District Co
operative association." This attempt at co
operation it in line with an agitation which has
been going on with intervening lulls for years,
and is the climax to a previous cooperative at
tempt. It ia the biggest thing that has hap
pened in the Wenatchee valley for a long time.
It is believed that contracts will be ready by
Saturday to be signed by prospective members.
Accordingly, the first meeting of the grow
ers has been called for Saturday at Cashmere.
At that time officers of the new enterprise will
be present to explain the plan and enroll mem
bers in what promises to be a many million dol
lar corporation.

coming interest or dividends and the reinvestment of funds
