'. City Engineer Laurgaard' has been instructed by the council to proceed with making surveys and drawing plaB for the improvement of East Davis street and widening Glisan street on the north side between Third and Fourth streets. The certification of the completion of Oregonian avenue from the north line of. Columbia boulevard to the south line the city council and payment of $8119.83, the contract price' for the. work,' author ized. District improvements fon Whitman avenue. Sixty-eighth street southeast and Fifty-third street southeast were adopted by the' council, and the city engineer was instructed to prepare plans for the improvements. Improvement of Michigan avenue from Trescott street to Albert was referred back to the de partment, of public works. , SANDY SEWER BEIiT'V Many recommendations for sewer im provements were : made by the city council during the week. City Engineer Laurgaard has. been instructed to pro ceed with plans for sewer .construction on Kant Fifty-ninth street from Sandy boulevard to 246 feet south of center Of Hancock street; Syracuse street frem 60 feet east of the east line of Buchanan street to center of Burr street, and on East Third street from 60 feet north of Hawthorne to East Salmon, street sewer. The council has accepted the bids for concrete sewer construction on the East Sixty-sixth and Stanton streets system, at the same time rejecting the bids for construction of sewer on College from 215 feet east of Sixteenth street to main sewer at Fourteenth and 'College. Commissioners Pier, Barbur and Pvigelpw state they were very favor ably impressed with the tract, gas and water connections, available swimming pool facilities and numerous other ad vantages appealing to them. One of the most serious objections to the loca tion of an automobile park in the city heretofore has come from ranMant. ...v, objected .to its proximity. A. J. Sullivan, superinten dent of the mission churches of Or egon and Southern Idaho, and over $2000 has been subscribed toward the undertaking. Ground for the new gVmnasium has been cleared adjoining the big new schoolhouse of Park rose and all that is needed now is weather, time and money to build It. The gym is expected to greatly aid the class consciousness of the high school. The residence of J. C. Morgan near the boulevard is being constructed part ly of tiling, which is said to be cheaper than lumber at present prices and su perior to shindies laid on siding. C A-. Cox and family have taken up their residence In the home recently pur chased from L. Meyerson. Grading and culvert work on the north extension of the Richardson road is com pleted and gravel ! promised to be de livered Isoon, possibly by December 1. 'A cement foundation for the club house Is laid and It Is expected that the superstructure will be started soon. TIGAHD The Evangelical church is to give a bazaar beginning December 2. The Tigard M. E. church has recently purchased a lot adjoining the church building And will build" an addition on it, put on a new roof and otherwise beautify the building and its approach. Several thousand dollars will be spent shortly In opening up a much needed street between the old garage and the boulevard. The road district of Tigard has voted a 10-mill tax and next year it is ex pected to see some improved roadways leading to the growing town. E. A. SELLW00D When Principal Morgan of Sellwood school took his eighth grade out to view the huge municipal terminal No. 4 last week, he was going to make sure that everyone who went realized that the trip was for educational purposes only. Therefore, essays describing the trip were written Wednesday afternoon. A ltttle daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Monroe, November 15. The home at 1110 Nehalem avenue is filled with happiness, according to Monroe. The business men and women of Sell wood will have a supper at the Com munity house Tuesday night. Several speeches will be made on topics of im portance. The grocery store at 1688 East Thir teenth street has -been sold t6 Mr. and Mrs. D. Allen of The Dalles by T. M. Turner. All of Sellwood! churches observed Thanksgiving, Thursday, by services in the afternoon and evening. The Sellwood Democratic club will omit its regular meetiag at the Community- house Tuesday evening on ac count of the supper to be given by the business men and women. The .home of Edward Cheenee, 537 Bidwell avenue, was opened Wednes day after being quarantined for scarlet fever for two weeks. Mrs. John Hamlin of Roseburgr spent the Thanksgiving holidays with her daughter, Mrs. Emma H. Richards of Milwaukic, teacher in the Sellwood school. ; " Johnson park, in Sellwood, is under going a lot of repairing. The new addi tions which were recently purchased by the city are to be beautified. Volley Ball Games Of Gym Classes Are To Begin Dec. 13 The volley ball schedule for the la dies' gymnasium classes of the park bureau will start the week of Decem ber 13. the winner each evening taking two out of three games. The schedule for the games for December 13 to 16, inclusive, follows : Monday evening, December 13, Arleta at Clinton Kelly, Mount Tabor at Mon tavilla. Couch atWashington high. PadMen. a teacher at Pasco, has been revoked, charges that he is an unfit person to teach in the schools of the state having been sustained. EAST SIDE and scene of many industrial interests T AVENUE PAVEO As soon as the school and other local matters can be settled the Fair view Commercial club proposes to get together and see if the county commissioners cahnot provide for the hard surfacing of Fairview avenue between the (Sandy boulevard and the Base Line road, a distance of about a mile and a half. The gravel and sand rolled last sum mer is already going to pieces and as compared to the hard surface is very unsatisfactory. The road is used by many heavy trucks, making shipments to Fairview and taking supplies in re turn. Frank Greenman, . who was injured three weeks ago by a suburban electric car at Fairview while riding a motor rycle, is reported to be recovering at St. Vincent hospital in Portland. His motorcycle was not as badly smashed as at first supposed. The question of joining the Union high school district will come up again on Saturday, December 11. The last time the election was not called in conformity with the law and while the high school supporters won out it was by a close vote. The . school social Wednesday netted $45, and everybody enjoyed the occasion. NORTH ALBINA The house being built in Missouri ave nue between Shaver and Mason streets, by Leon & Nelson is expected to be fin ished and ready to be occupied in the near future. A large trowd witnessed a football game on the Jefferson high grounds last Sunday between the Highland aggrega tion and the Duniway park team. Duni way won Jhe game 6 to 0 after. a hard fight. The only touchdown came as a resuR of a forward pass. Eighteen rounds of boxing were dished out to fans of the Albina district last Saturday night at "The Club." A gym nasium has been built there and it is the plan of the manager to stage boxing there every two weeks. A joint dance was held in the Jeffer son High school gymnasium ' last week between two of the school organizations, the Zetas and the Phi-Deltas. Hall, county agricultural agent, ia busy visiting farmers in eastern Multnomah county and se curing their cooperation in a system of farm records for 1921 from which to secure reliable data as to cost of farm products, especially dairy products.' He now has about 50 in terested,' ranging ; from the small farmer with two or three cows to some of the leading dairymen. He Is also securing from them a sur vey of the 1920 operations with a view of preparing data on cost of production. Acting as a sort of employment agent for the farmers of Eastern Multnomah, S. B. Hail for the past. 18 months has kept track of the wages offered and refused for farm" labor. Ho says it has fallen in the last 30 days at least a third, men now taking general farm labor at $50 and $60 a month where $75 and $90 was refused in October. Miss Ruth Montague, librarian of the Gresham branch, spent Thanksgiving at Albany, where she addressed the stu dents on the use of the library. She dined Thanksgiving day with her uncle and aunt, A. M. Hammer and wife, and enjoyed an automobile drive with friends in the afternoon. Miss Montague is a graduate of the .Albany college and re joiced with its students in its football victories Thursday. Efforts are being made to' extend the electrical services of the P. R., 1. & P. company east of Gresham as far as Cottrell. A meeting will be held at Orient grange hall Wednesday night to consider the offer made by the company representatives. At a recent hearing' the council re voked Miller's license following the in troduction of evidence that he "planned a trust" to raise garbage hauling serv ice prices for apartment houses from $4 to $14 a month.. .
