Loss at Chicago and other Kastern centers was very severe, the foreign bearish clique being in full control of the situation. The clique has the farmers licked and they know it and are. therefore in no mood to do anything except to- lower values' to further ruinous figures. Few of the farmers are in position to hold their supplies for an indefinite period. The situation would not be so serious were it. -a mere domestic condition, but the affair is an international one and appears backed by - almost unlimited funds from 'foreign governments. Further loss of $1 a ton is showing in the market for millstuffs. Mill run was down to $44 a ton at the mills in ton lots during the day, making the carload price $43 a ton. ; Flour market is entirely dead at the moment. As expected the market tor turkeys ended . the Thanksgiving trade rather demoralized so far as consumppm of birds was concerned. While Front street cleaned up practically all of its good birds without disturbing the price, the retailer was "stuck" as usual. Retailers parried rather fair supplies of tur keys over the holiday because of the lack of de mand from the consumer on account of the ex treme price dealers were forced to charge. Producers secured the highest average price for a number of years because of short offer ings in the country, but even thia small stock was more than sufficient to take cars of ' all wants of the trade. Whle turkeys sold previous to the holiday at 62c a pound for best dressed birds, supplies were being offered in the retail shops at 5o to 12c a pound below that. This condition ia expected to have sn effect upon the Christgnaa trade. N. &) After irregular changes at the opening of the stock market today, many stocks were subjected to pressure, heavy offerings' causing sharp declines in a number of issues and forcing them down to new low records for the movement. Atlantic Gulf. Mexican Petroleum. Sinclair Oil and Crucible Steel were the weakest fea ture. The volume of selling in these issues had aa unsettling influence all through the list. Mexican Petroleum after opening up U at 161 H. broke to 158 H. Atlantic Gulf, which opened up K at 103 yielded to 99 K . Sinclair Oil was sold in large blocks, declining to 24. Crucible Steel broke S pointa to 89. Southern Pacific, after advancing at the start to 113 H. dropped to 112. Steel common rose H to 824. and then broke go 81 H. New Haven, after an opening gain of 4 to 22 hi declined to 21 H. Baldwin was in supply from the start, falling over 2 points to 94 hi . Texas Company yielded 1H to 48. Stude baker declined 1H to 44 H ; General Motors 1 point to 15. and V. S. Rubber 1H to 65 H. 'Market opinions were mixed in regard to the selling that caused the sharp breaks. The gen- reral impression waa that most of the selling represented offering of short accounta, but aome insisted the supply came from sources that had taken over stocks early in the week, 'and were finding a market for these issues.
