THANKSGIVING DAY
ONE
OF
GRATITUD
E
' Washington, Nov. 25. (I. N". g.)
The dry forces of the United States
have many reasons to be grateful at
'.his, .Thanksgiving season," said
Wayne B, Wheeler, general counsel
; an T legislative superintendent of the
.A nti-Saloori" league, today. "A great
nation has demonstrated that it is
'not dependent on revenue; derived
' from liquor. .' . ' ' :. V-" -.. .
"The growing tendency of the press is
to tell the facts about prohibition and
officers who will not enforce it.
, . "Arrests for drunkenness Tin former
T-wet territory have decreased about 60
per cent, and all arrests about 40 per
cent. Arests for delinquency, truancy
nd neglected children are on the decline.
"Jails, alcoholic inebriate' asylums and
workhouses are gradually closing up, or
are abandoning a large part of their In
t stitutions for lack of inmates. Ths, home
is having a chance to show Its superi
ority as a substitute for the saloon. "
' - "The present alcohol addicts and de
fectives, the product of the liquor license
system, are rightly recognized . as the
left-over liquor problem and not the re-
suit of proHibition."
