University of Oregon, Kugene,
Nov. 20. Probably the most unique
club on the campus is the Cosmo
politan club, which IncIudeB all stu
dents at the university -who are of
foreign birth. A meeting was held
Tuesday night at the Y. M. C. A.
hut and plans for the future activi
ties of the organization were
planned.
Professor.- E. E. DeCou reported that
he had sent 15 letters to the- presidents of
a number of Western, 'Middle Western
and Eastern colleges inquiring about the
nature of the foreign born student clubs,
asking for copies of their programs and
publications. He expected answers by
the end of this week or the fore part of
next week. This information will be val
uable in organizing the ciub in the best
way and in getting .up good programs.
MKXICAXS MAT ARBIVE
Dean C. V. Dyment stated that the
club eould-expect a big increase in mem
bership in the. future. The Mexican
Chamber of Commerce had written a
letter to the university asking as to the
facilities on hand to house and instruct
a group of Mexican students. -
He also expected a big increase in the
enrollment of Chinese students.
According to the constitution tempor
arily Adopted at the meeting there will
be three kinds of members. The first
will be the active members who will be
foreign born students and faculty mem
bers. The second will be the associated
members comprising the students born
In America. The third will be honorary
members. The constitution calls for bi
monthly meetings.
OFFICERS TO BE ELECTED
It was decided to elect the officers and
.to, give a short program at the next
meeting. F, A. Buholzer, chairman ; Rex
Uemelster and Anna Karagozian were
appointed a nominating committee.
Arrangements for a program were also
made. .

Press Association
Ready to Function
University of Oregon, Eugene, Nov. 20.
With ,11 college publications as sub
scribers, the Pacific Intercollegiate Press
association will soon betcln to work. The
ansoelation Is the result of the conference
of newspaper editors and business man
agers from the Pacific colleges which
met here last week and organized.
Under the present plan each paper
will send out news bulletins, concerning
happenings on 'its) own campus. In this
nay interest will be kept alive In all the
schools or the coast in neighboring in
stitutions. A. Wendell Braekett of the University
"of Washington daily, one of the origin
ators of the idea,; is to have charge of
the service. Each paper will have its own
ice. Each' paper will have its own
newpaper publicity man for publica
tions In other papery Jacob Jacohson,
former exchange editor on the Oregon
Emerald, will handle this work on the
Oregon campus,

Elected : President
Of Armistice Club
Universitylof Oregon, Eugene, Xov. 20.
Many prominent women connected
with the university assisted in the for
mation of an Armistice day club, which
was effected recently as the result of
?the recent jArmistice day celebration.
The first meeting was held this week.
Mrs. Colinl Dyment was elected presi
dent, Dean Elizabeth Fox, vice president,
and Miss R. Louise Fitch, secretary.
Other members are: Mis's.Tirza Dins
dale of Eugene. Miss Mary Brownell,
Miss Powell,j Miss Grace Robertson, and
Miss Winifred Douthit of the university.
These people were stationed at dif
ferent places during the war and no two
did the same kind ! of work, nor were
they at the same place. Mrs. Dyment
and Miss Douthit were connected with
the Red Cross and stationed at different
places in France. Miss Robertson was
stationed in Russia, and Miss Brownell
in Roumania, both with the Red Cross.
Miss Dinsdale was in Italy, Dean Fox in
France, and Miss Fitch in France, all
doing T. W. C. A. work.

Organizing in Many Communi
ties for Opening of Campaign.
The annual sale of Christmas
seals
by the Oregon Tuberculosis associa
tion has received the following com
mendation from Governor Olcott:
"It is with pleasure that I give n in
dorsement to the Christmas Seal sale of

the Oregon Tuberculosis association.
This association conducts a broad gen
eral public health campaign and it is
found associated with virtually levery
agency engaged in health work and with
the educational institutions, as well. Its
sole means of support, financially, is .the
Christmas Seal sale and I am certain
it will meet with the same ready re
sponse with which It has met in the
past" 'I
Practically the entire state is; now
organized for the sale of the I little
Christmas stickers which will begin De
cember 1. Organizations have been per
fected by counties, cities and communi
ties ' and the schools will also render
valuable aid in the sale as they have in
past years. In Portland the sale will be
conducted through the medium of booths
placed conspicuously In the down town
section In charge of different groups of
women each dayl ' The quota, for the
campaign is $40,000.
County quotas have been worked out

capita, which sale will be necessary if
the present work of the association is

Caroline Schafer's
Funeral Is Held;
Death Came Nov, 9
Caroline Schafer, widow of Michael
Schafer. a pioneer of 1862, died at the
home of her daughter. Miss Sarah Web
ber, in Portland November 9. The fu
neral services were held at the Brady
and DeMoss parlors at Oregon City.
The interment was at the Stafford cem
etery. Mrs. Schafer was bom In St. Louis in
1842 and came to Oregon 48 years ago
by way of the Isthmus of Panama. - She
is survived by eight daughters, one son,
15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
