Estimated Receipts Will Total
$2,330,000 and Balanced for
New Buildings Will Be Small.
Salem, Or., Nov. 20. Salaries and
miscellaneous maintenance items
necessary to the administration of
the Oregon Agricultural college for
the next two years will require a to
tal of $2,002,054, according to an es
timate filed with Secretary of State
Kozer Saturday by W. J. Kerr, presi
dent of the institution.
The estimate, however, shows that the
receipts of the institution for the bien
nium will aggregate 12.330.000, leaving a
. balance of $327,946 for new buildings,
which, however, Kei;r declares Is en
tirely inadequate to the needs of the
school.
The needs of the experiment station
division of the college for the biennlum
are estimated at $372,200, with receipts
estimated at $170,200, leaving a balance
f $200,000 to be appropriated by the
legislature.
The extension service division of the
college will need $538,336.24 for the Jalea
nium, with receipts, estimated at $4ff2,
748.12, leaving a balance of J7S.588.12 to
be appropriated. s

the 36 counties in the state. Baker,
Crook, Deschutes, Harney, Hood River
and Umatilla counties gave Oregon's
distinguished war senator pluralities.
The vote was extremely close in Co
lumbia, Jefferson and Umatilla coun
ties, but Multnomah gave Stanfleld a
lead of 3093. The'vote on United States
senator was : Stanfield, 116,695 ; Cham
berlain, 100,133; Slaughter. 6953; Hays,
4456.
McARTHCB IS CLOSE RACE
Congressman McArthur was given the
closest race of any of the Oregon con
gressional representatives. : The final
count gives him a plurality of 6031 votes
over Dr. Esther Pohl-Lovejoy. McArthur
ran 7000 votes behind Harding in Mult
nomah county and more than 1000 votes
ahead of Stanfield. In the First con
gressional district Hawlev swamped Tal
bert with a 64,339 majority and Sinnott
defeated Graham for representative in
the Second dlsrtict by 16,496 votes.
The congressional vote in the three
Oregon districts follows ;
First district, Hawley 72.597, Talbert
8258 ; Second district, Graham 13,048, Sin
nott 29.545 ; third district, Johns 3252,
Lpvejoy 31,853, McArthur 37,884.
Sam- Kozer was elected secretary of
state by an overwhelming vote, he re
ceiving 178.722 to 44,730 for 'Sears and
11,313 for Upton.
SUPBEME COTJHT VOTE
The vote for the four full-term su
preme court justices follows : Bean 165,
752, Benson 158,562. Harris 155,794, Mc-

Bride 157,602. George M. Brown, elected
to a vacancy on the supreme bench,
received 52.484 votes. William Smith
received 949 votes and W. O. McArthur
received 2318 votes for the same office.
I. H. Van Winkle's vote for attorney
general was 25,277. Other candidates
received votes as follows: Bailey 11,
570, Coshow 8245. Johnson 3189.
C. L. Hawley's vote for dairy and
food commissioner was 163.849, his op
ponent. Von Behren, receiving) 18,651
votes. H. H. Corey was elected: public
service commissioner for the eastern
district, receiving 46,344 votes; jin the
western- district. Fred E. Buchtel re
ceived 97,091 votes, Bennett 46,344, New
man 11,076. I
Only one " of the 11 members was
carried, that lengthening ihe tefms of
certain county officers receiving an af
firmative majority of 17,075. Thjs other
10 measures were rejected, the
adverse vote, that of 129,695,
registered against the measure reducing
the legal rate of interest in Oregoi. The
vote on the several measures follows

Plnehurst. N. C. Nov. 20. Guy M.
Standifer, the Portland representative In
the big 72-hole amateur-professional best
ball tournament now going on at Pine
hurst, is nalred with Gil Nichols. The
team finished today's play of 36 holes
in 147 strokes. Five teams are ahead
of the Standifer-Nichols pair out of the
80 teams competing, and the two are
looked to be aanong those at the top
when the championship is settled.

TO TAKE NAVAL
More Than .50 Enlisted Men Are
Included in Number to "Go On
Cruise Down the Pacific Coast.
After a rough passage from Brem
erton, the destroyer Renshaw, com
manded by Lieutenant Commander
D. C. Swain, U. S. navy, arrived in
the harbor Saturday morning,
The Renshaw is here to take the Ore
gon sub district members of the naval
reserve force on a three-weeks' practice
cruise. She will sail for Southern Cali
fornia waters Monday morning: at 8
o'clock.
Fifty or more- enlisted men and four
officers of the reserve from Portland will
take the cruise. The itinerary planned
by Captain Swain will include visits
to San Francisco, San Pedro, Santa Bar
bara and San Diego. The cruise for the
Oregon boys will end December 10 upon
the return of the ship.
The regular officers of the ship are
ieutenant L. E. Orvis, executive officer;
Lieutenant Ig.) H. C Rolf, engineer of
ficer, and Ensign J. H. Hughes. The
reserve officers assigned are Lieutenant
H.. B. B. Montgomery, Medical corps ;
Lieutenant E. TL Sturtevant. Lieutenant
Jg.) C. D. Bakes, Lieutenant (Jg). H.
V. Libby and Ensign Whittaker. Lieu
tenant Montgomery is completing hla
two months' active duty cruise and will
leave the ship in southern waters.
The Renshaw is one of the. flush deck
type destroyer and has a displacement
of 1100 tons. She is 315 feet long with
a beam of 33 feet and draws 10 feet of
water. Her horsepower of 28.000 gives
her a speed of J 5 knots. The arma
ment consists of four 4-inch guns and
12 21-inch torpedo tubes. The Renshaw
was built by the Union Ironworks at
San Francisco. .

what handicapped thU afternoon in its
game against the Canadian Veterans on
the Reed college athletic Held because
of the inability to play of Robert M. D.
Rankin. Rankin had his right knee
severely wrenched in the game against
Peninsula last Sunday and it waa only
yesterday that he was able to take the.
