Unlike former nhowa, where a few had everything their own way due to small Classen and few exhibitors, the awards were scattered among a large number of representative -breeders. f i Awards were made for the first ten in almost all of the classes and an animal had to have considerable merit to et into' the money, for in some cases as many as 40 entries were made in each rlaa. Ick of space makes it impossible to give all of the awaras. The champion nd grand champion awards follow: ! STOCK SHOW SETS NEW IS. By It, C. Stewart ' j. "The best stock show that has ever been pulled off in America," was the general opinion of all who visited the three and a half thousand of the world's finest cattle at the Pa cific International the past week. This expression came not only from the thousands of marveling and as tounded spectator but also front the judges and Eastern visitors ' who have visited all of the largest shows in the country- -si The Pacific International is putting the Northwest on the map as 'the great est place in the world for the produc tion of fine quality livestock. It is open ing the eyes of the rest of the country and incidentally opening the eyes of the people of the Northwest. It is creating a new interest among both -old and new breeders and paving -the way for the fetill further improvement of our herds and flocks. MACHINE WELL OILED Curing the entire week everything went as smoothly as a well oiled and regulated watch. - The usual expressions oi disapproval of the judges' opinions were absent and In every case ' both winner and Joser were universal in their commendation and satisfaction with the plaeings. Before the show many were of the opinion that some of the' new exhibitors would expect too much and would be greatly disappointed if they did not win the best prizes, but every one seemed satisfied and were as good at losing as at winning. There were a greater number of exhibitors than at any stock show anywhere, with the number shown by one mart varying from one to many. The prizes were not easily carried off by a few large exhi bitors,, but-were distributed among bath small and large breeders. Several of the champion animals are owned by men who have only very small herds. jrDGES ARE PLEASED That the judges themselves were great ly, pleased with the stock shown is ap parent from many remarks wjtfch they made"" during and after the judging. After the award had been made for the best' herd of five Jersey milk cows Judge George - W. .Sisson Of Potsdam, N. Y., said in regard to the winning herd! The 'best herd , of five cows I have ever seen in the show ring. Thi.s show has produced some wonderful Jer sey cattle." The winning herd was that of Frank Loughary & Sons of Monmouth. The herd of Congressman -C. N. McArthur of Rickreall took second place. Third place was given to J. . M. Dickson & Sons of Shedd, - Or.', and fourth to F.
