Nov. 18. .Following the sensational escape "of a burglar suipect from the Miller company store here, Lester Wygant of Carlton, aged 20, was taken Into custody by members of the train crew at Whiteson.and turned over to McMinnvtlle county authorities. The , arrest was made by Conductor-Scrubs and Brakeman Akin, both of whom were ". j unarmed. He admitted his guilt. Wygant's hands were badly scratched, which fact. In connection with.-the plunge of the robber suspect through the store window to escape a policeman's bullets, led to. the 'fixing of suspicion upon the passenger. Wygant carried two gunnyaacks full of alleged stolen goods valued at $150. Ha at first ex plained that his hands had been cut in contact with a barbed wire fence. The - man had boarded the train at Wabash . and was headed for, Portland. Half a dozen sweaters which were stolen in Sheridan recently have been recovered in Portland second hand stores and it is believed that Wygant was connected .with the robbery of the. Miller store on a previous occasion. American Legion Conducts Services For Dead -Soldier McMinnvllle. Nov. IS. The body of Owen Hull Johnson, returned from Bor deaux.
