TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 1820. THE OREGON DAILY JOURNAL,. PORTLAND, OREGON 17 LAXITY IN SCHOOL FOOD RESTAURANTS SCORED BY WOMAN Desire for clearer and trior wholesome conditions in ' the res taurants of the city, particularly the small establishments near school houses where many children pur chase their noon meals, the Incon sistency of the present apprentice ship laws, and 1 more just laws for women and children, in the state of Oregon were discussed at the annual meeting of the .Consumers' league Monday afternoon at Central li brary. Mrs. William L. Brewster presiding. Mrs. J. W. Fowler reported for the res taurant committee, which has been at workror four years, noting great im provement In many establishments, both large and small, but depleting that there are still some places near school houses where conditions are bad. ! Miss Eva Wachtel reported the Injus tice of present apprenticeship laws, which provide- that one must serve an apprenticeship of - a year at making boxes and that the same period Is re quired in dressmaking. Other equally obvious comparisons were made. Mrs. A. W. Cooper gaVe a resume of the laws in Oregon pertaining to women and children, dwelling especially on the child welfare commission.
