dent of Portland for 16 years. Her
sudden death last Friday was a
shock and, surprise to her many

ices will be held. Services will also
be held at the Christian church,"

the pastor, will officiate. Mrs.
Loomis is survived by her husband,

William E. Wilson, proprietor of the
Villa barber shop.1 , whose automobile
was stolen from Park and Yamhill
streets about itwo wees ago,-has re
ceived word fnom the chief of police at
Richmond, Cat, that his car. has been
located at that place. Officers at Rich
mond notified the Portland police of
the recovery, saying the car was found
standing in the street with two . rims
and ; two tires missing. The insurance
company is shipping the i machine back
to Portland by boat Wilson - says the
efficiency of the Portland police is
largely responsible for the recovery of
his car. .
H. P. Barrett. Eighty-second and
East Burnside. has finished painting
his house, and the results are sufficient
evidence of what a little money spent
for paint will do for many other homes
in Montavilla.
The surmises of the citizens of Mon
tavilla at 12:30 Tuesday morning took
on all the color variations. Burglars.
wind storms, gas explosions, one of the
family , falling out of bed or down
stairs and falling plaster were among
the guesses. Few if any guessed the
truth. Not until Tuesday's papers were
read was it generally known that the
earth's ' crust had been visited by a
temblor.
In the past few months very little
petty larceny has been reported from
Montavilla.- It has been the Judgment
of many that this' suburban district Is
too distant from the railroads to attract
the "hobos who travel from city to city,
determined to live dishonestly. Within
the last week-all such hopes have been
exploded. From at least a dozen quar
ters reports have come, alleging thefts
and burglaries.
RUSSELLVILLE
The Russellville grange will hold a
bazaar and free entertainment Satur
day, December 4. and all receipts will
be turned over to the grange hall fund.
The grange is recognized as a commu
nity asset and has been having some
lively social times recently.
A branch of the county library has
been established at Russellville, with
Mrs. Rogers in charge.
Charles Wicklander and family will
shortly leave for Eastern Oregon. He
has raised a large crop of potatoes this
year which jUie will place on the market
before his departure. Neighbors and
friends wish them success.

WOULD RUSH PLAN
The committee in charge of the
Lents community improvement plan
is making a strong effort to have the
petitions prepared immediately. The
maps which were being prepared by
the city to cover all the territory to
be improved are now in the hands
of the committee.
These maps are made so as to show
all streets, blocks and lots of the dis
trict and in addition give the assessed
value of each lot and the cost to each
of the improvement.
These maps will be placed, as soon as
possible, in convenient places in Lents
so that persons desiring information in
regards to their property may consult
them.
IMPKOVE3IEST SEEDED
This improvement plan Is one of the
biggest and most needed undertakings
probably . ever attempted by the Lents
community. It will be valuable to prop
erty owners, and will without a doubt,
greatly increase the value of all prop
erty so improved.
It is the hope, of the committee that
all property owners in the Lents district
will assist In this work and help "put
it over the top."

BUDGET COMING UP
A special meeting of the Rock
wood school district will be held
Thursday to consider the budget and
other matters. Among the subjects
for consideration to, be presented
will be the employment of a third
teacher. The school is now out of
debt, well built and furnished and
the attendance increasing.
W. Tyson is building a new cottage
back of his store on the Base Line road.
The Burgess nursery will turn out a
large number of young trees grown in
1920, mostly prunes, and preparations
are being made to plant several sacks
of peach pits for 1921. Upon the roots
of the resulting young trees the prunes
will be grafted.
The Kreofsky brothers are hoping to
be able to put up an addition to the
Rockwood garage If they Succeed in
renting their store building on the Base
Line road. Several parties have inquired
about it and it is understood some of
fers have been made.
-If sufficient signatures can be-obtained
the Rockwood community will
have electric lights added to its'gas to
make it more citifiecL , It is understood
that $135 per house must be pledged to
be taken in service within two years.

A petition is being largely signed by'
owners of property on Martin avenue to
have it improved. It is certainly in
need of recognition by the county.

The Ladies' Aid society of Parkrose
will hold an all day session at the
church Thursday, November. 18. It is
hoped all members will make a special

planning an exhibit of books suit
able for Christmas gifts. Througn
the efforts of' Miss Carrie Mussdorf,
the librarian, the book stores of the
city will have a display of books at
the library in conjunction with Good
Book week. A special meeting of
the) Parent-Teacher association will
be held at the Library next Thursr

branch' last year was 26,263 books,

tion. The Woodstock Study club has been re
vived and' Is now holding meetings at the

of Friday's meeting. The' club takes up
the literature and history of the regions
under discussion as well as the scenic
points.
The T. W. C. A. girls reserve, an or
ganisation for home , service, are now

Halloween party for the community at
the j Woodstock school. The officers of
the ' organization are : Edna Beeson,

A women's gymnasium class has been
organized and is holding practise in the
school auditorium.

The school district meeting has
been called for ; November 26, and
will have a' budget to consider and
an additional sum over the receipts
expected to vote for of 11053.47.
Among the questions to. come up at
the school meeting November 26 -will be
the electric lighting of the school house.
Some point out that lamps are both un
satisfactory and dangerous, while others
contend that as the building has been
without electric lights for- 80 years it
can well continue a few years more.

wood beside it that many think a wood-
yard has been opened. i
It seems settled that the Falrvlew pu
pils ef the union high school at Gresham
will continue to attend until 'the close
of the school year, when, if, Falrvlew
does not formally join the district, the
Union trustees wjll take undeH consider
