While Paris society has been as dance
mad as that of any other large city.- the
average Parisian, has .-never succumbed
to the fascination of syncopated music :

, McGettigan, who is not French, was a
perfectly proper Portland newspaperman
10 years, ago when he deserted the
fourth estate to accept the. benefit of

folk as press agent. . t
From that office it was, for McGetti
gan at least, a short step to the man
agerial roll top, ; before which he has
been sitting, with his hat on, for some
five years.
The Orpheum manager got his start
in life at Valejo, Cal., but he corrected
that? as soon as he could safely leave the
parental fireside and shortly entered
upon a promising career as a Journal

Francisco and 1x58 Angeles papers Mc
Gettigan 'was drawn to Portland and
here he was found when the Orpheum
needed a press agent to replace Mark
Woodruff, who quit to concentrate his
effort toward electing Ben Selling to
the United States senate. That's how
Selling comes to bear the burden of the
blame for nipping in the bud a news
paper, career. .
The allegation that McGettigan wears
ni nat in bed has never been proved,
but he pleads guilty to. the authorship
of "Hogan In London." which provided
an entertaining Orpheum vehicle for
Bert Leslie. Bert, once the "king of
slang," is now in a -"hospital for the in
sane. Draw your own conclusions.
Aside from that little 'skit, though,
McGettigan has written, since he be
came a personage, on Broaway, The
Wife Saver," and one other sketch. 'Th
Wife Saver," as played oyer the Or4
pheum circuit by Franklin Ardell for
three highly successful seasons, ' was
characterized by critics as '"the great
est laugh in vaudeville," without an
exception. .,
Goodness knows, there may be an
other one like- It under that everlasting

The McGettigan family lives close to
rthe field of harvest in a commodious,
cosy apartment 'directly under the Or
pheum balcony, as a matter of fact, and
adjoining the quarters of other Heilig
theatre folks. '
