STEBBINGER BROS
RELEASED;
ITRACT RE-LET
Btebblnger Bros., awarded a con
tract by the dock commission for
the construction of a' shed at pier 2,
terminal 4 on October 20 on a flat
sum off 174,632, were released this
morning and the. "contract went to
the next lowest; bidder, Tranchell
&" Parelius for $184,269. The lat
ter bid was subject to the approval
of the city attorney. .
Stebbinger Bros., by A. H. Stebbinger,
filed a demurrer to the original bid on
: the ground that an error In the compila
. tlon of their fig-urea In their, of flee omlt
, ted one Item- pn structural iron, which
' made a difference of 11.900. The. bid
should have been 1,432, and If held to
the original bldyhey stood to lose the
I if. 900. Tu to this oversleht, the dock
' t-ommissionssr released the bid and ac-
repted the nett lowest, that of irancnett
& Pnre.Uim. '
- Other bids offered for the construction
of the ehed at Pier No. 2, Terminal No. i
4, were: J. M. Dougan, $192,500 ; Teller i
& Allyn, $189,460; LePoux, Schwab &
Brlx. $191,997 ; A. Guthrt & Co., 224,p00.
Affairs between the stevedoring; com
panies and the long-shoremen having
been adjusted, the first of the municipal
railways In ready for operation. The
line was officially taken over this morn
ing and will be in operation Friday
. morning.
Prior to the completion of the rail line
from S3L Johns to the terminal a rate
was in effect between stevedores and
' longshoremen whereby the latter received
"an additional stipend of one hour per"
- day, travel pay. This agreement was to
terminate with the opening of the street
car line.
