OF HOOD KING RIVER Of Interest throughout the state 1 the news of the approaching mar riage of Mr. Harriet King ot Hood River to Simon Benson of Portland. Although the fact of their engage ment has. been known for several weeks by a few close frier .4 of Mr. Benson and h's fiancee, no formal announcement has been uiaoV. Mrs. King was born, in Eugene, and , has always been a resident of Oregon. For the last 12 years she has made her home in Hood River, where, since the death of her husband, she has been man ager of her own orchards . and of va rious business enterprises in which she has been engaged.? JShe has also been Instrumental in organizing activities In the Interests of : hlgnway improvement In the Hood River district. Mrs. King is a woman of distinguished appear ance and of unusual personal charm and has many warm friends in Port land. This -afternoon she was greeted by Portland friends at a tea for which Mrs. Pat Herbert Allen, daughter of Mr. Benson, was hostess : at her home In Marshall street At this time, how ever, no announcement was made of "the engagement, as Mrs.' King shared ionors with Mrs. Oliver Walker ot New York city. - '. ;.' ' ' . I Mr. Benson lr widely known as "Ore gon's most useful citizen.- He is a pio neer timberman of the state and has maintained extensive business interests la Oregon for many years. He also bears an enviable record as one of Ore gon's' most generous philanthropists, his ' contributions to education and - public convenience being i no less known than Ills aid to the cause of good roads and highway extension. - No definite plans for the wedding have been made.
