' : ; PORTLAND, OREGON.: 2ft THE OREGON BARBUR PAYS IN MUNICIPAL PLANT PROFIT OF BO Twenty-five hundred dollars waa turned into the city treasury Tuesday by Commissioner Barbur as recent profit of the municipal pavlng.plant. The sum is in addition to $10,600 turned In since April, when the en larged paving plant was opened. The money represents profit after de ductions for materials and costs of op eration of the plant. Simultaneously with the transfer of money It was declared that the munic ipal plant has won more Jobs on com petitive bidding than any other organi sation within the city. The figures as issued show that the municipal plant payed 106,178.. square yards, the War ren Construction company 79,701.4 yards and the United Contracting company 13.897 yards. The city's bids have been $51,000 un der those of private companies this year. COMMITTEE TUStrrfi. EYES ON WATERFRONT PROPERTIES Complaint against property on the waterfront were made Tuesday to the waterfront committee when that body met in the city hall. A charge that the old sand and gravel bunkers at the east end of the Morrison street bridge en dangered the bridge approach was made. The bunkers are owned by Joseph Faquet. O. L. Thornton, a city inspector, was ordered to make a survey of the property. Investigation of the Panima Cooperage company dock at 228 Front street was ordered when conflicting re ports declared It to be 60 per cent de teriorated and 89 per cent deteriorated. The committee has established, a rule that waterfront property 40 per cent de teriorated must be removed. r Kerr Nursery Home Drive Gleans $1000 On First Day Round Tuesday, the first day of 'the drive for the Albertlna Kerr Nursery home, brought In ' receipts of more than $1000, including an Individual contribution of $350 by the Nlcolai Nappach company. Optimism prevailed today among the campaigners, who hope to complete their objective by November 6, when the cam paign will end with a tag sale on the Streets. -' Arthur H. Johnston, proprietor of the Coffee Cup restaurants, has offered to turn the management and proceeds of his eating houses over to the fund for November 5. The home is seeking to raise $26,000 to complete the building at East Twenty-second and Sandy boulevard. High School Students Hear Noted Pianist High schol students enjoyed immense ly the rehearsal of the Portland Sym phony orchestra at the Heilig Tuesday morning, which included the appearance of Benno Molselwitsch, Russian pian ist, who will be the soloist at the open ing concert of the season Wednesday night.
