CROIX DE GUERRE
AWARDED 147TH
FIELD ARTILLERY
Balem, Oct. .31. Oregon' oldest
and youngest military organizations
are Included In. the award tof the
French Croix de Guerre to th 147th
field artillery, information j6t which
was received by Ad Ju.arjt General
White. Wednesday.
The 147th field artillery, a part of the
famous Thirty -second division, was com
posed of Battery A of Portland and Bat
tery B, composed of Portland, The
Dalles and Balem men, and six other
batteries recruited in Wyoming. North
Dakota and South Dakota.
The award is made for participation
by the field artillery In the second battle
of the Marne and In the Argonne cam
paign. It la expected that many mem
bers of the two Oregon units Will attend
the meeting of the Thirty-second di
vision society In Detroit next summer,
at which the colors of the organisation
will be decorated with the French award.
Extradition papers issued by Governor
Bumqulst of Minnesota, asking for the
return of Magnus O. Anderson, alias
Magnus O. Tollofson to Duluth, Minn.,
where he Is wanted on a charge of
abandoning minor children, were hon
ored by Governor Olcott Wednesday and
Anderson left for Minnesota Thursday
tn charge of John C. Brown, deputy
sheriff.
Anderson was first arrested at Cath
lamet. Wash., and a requisition was
honored by the governor of that state.
Anderson, however, secured permission
to visit Astoria. In this state,
end refused to return to the Jurisdiction
of the Washington authorities, necessi
tating the Issuance of extradition papers
for this state.
Company L. Oregon National Guard,
will be mustered in at Dallas. Tuesday
night, according to Adjutant General

Dallas furnished a unit under the desig
nation of Company L for the Oregon
guard during the recent war and the
legislation has been held open pending
completion of the new organisation -on a

Willamette Valley Southern Railroad at
Mount Angel, Is contemplated m an 'ap
plication filed with the public service
commlsnion, Wednesday, by the Silver
Falls Timber eampojur ukJiis; for au
thority to construct crossings over
county highways at four points la Ma
rion county.
Improvements tn the shipping- facil
ities at Talbot station on the Oregon
Electric line in Marion county will be
considered by the public service com
mission at a hearing n Salem, October
28. On the same data the commission
will consider an application for a grade
crossing near Claxtar station on the
Oregon Blectric In this county.
Grade crossings In Baker county will
occupy the attention of the commission
November 4 and a rehearing into tele
phone rates on the Bradford Telephone
lines is scheduled for Prairie City on

vice commission Wednesday the petition
of the city of Gervals, Marlon county,
asking to be relieved of the necessity of
erecting- warning signs at various rail
road crossings within the city limits la
denied. .

Wednesday, when Ned Baldwin, secre
tary to Concressatan Slnnott, marked his
ballot and sealed It in the presence of
the county clerk. Baldwin voted under
the absent voters' act of 191. He leaves
The Dalles Saturday, for Washington,
and will be there election day.
