I kidnaping: of the baby of George T.
' 8tacff. newspaper man, in Tacoma,
;Wah., admitted today he knows the
I whereabouts of the child.
' As the prlnclpalii were leaving police
' court today following adjournment until
Monday of Miss Bralnerd's "hearing on
, a charge of being a fugitive from Justice
pending result "of the extradition hearing
before Governor Smti in Albany tomor

J. Kresel, told Mrs, Ada Cunningham.
grandmother of the tajr :
"Madame, we sympathise with yorc
You may rest assured the baby Is safe."
Be would say nothing more. .
Miss Brainerd, a tall. ' well dressed
blonde, met all inquiries with compressed
lips and a negative shake of her bead.
Detective Captain Jobs S. Strickland
of Tacoma. who came here to take Miss
Brainerd to that city, if the governor
grants extradition, gave a veiled Intima
tion the baby is in Tacoma, or in the
vicinity of Tacoma, He refused to go
into details..
After Kresel's remark to Mrs. Cun
ningham, who is small, dark hatred and
youthful, she expressed the belief the
defense . would seek to arrange some
"trade" giving up the baby in exchange
for dropping the proceedings against
Miss Brainerd and Stagg-. or, following
disposition of the present case, Stagg
would attempt to fight for legal posses
sion of the child.
Asked if he knew where Stagg ,waa,
Strickland replied:
1 wish I did.' I have a set of jewelry
(handcuffs) for him." - - ;
