HURT WHEN
STREET CARS HIT
A .Woodlawn streetcar crashed
into an Irvlngton car at 8:45 o'clock
Monday night at Holladay and Union
avenue, injuring two passengers
J. E. Lynch, 405 Clay street, and
John Glrten, 321 "West Park street.
Both-men wer cut about the head
and face. They were taken to St.
Vincents hospital.
The collision occurred when the Wood
lawn car became unmanageable. It
struck the lrvlnRton car head-on at the
treet tnteriiectlon. The impact threw
both cars from the tracks and hurled
the Woodlawn car partly Into a vacant
lot.

John Laue Jr., yiember of the Laue
Davis Drug company ; J. T. Walker,
merchant, and Theodore Anderson,
Thomas Meyers and A. J. Rose, all 41
Portland, were arrested Sunday at Bur
lington, while returning home from their
game preserve on Sauvies island. The
arrest was made by K. H. Clark and C.
P. Smith, deputy game wardens, who
charged the men with having' more than
their limit of ducks.
' The bag of the five Portlanders totaled
196. which was 67 more than they should
have had, It is claimed. The wardens
were stationed near Sauvies Island in re
sponse to complaints of excessive bags of
ducks being shot. Walker and Laue

fiscated. following trial Monday. Trial
of the other. three will be held today.
Ogilbee's Rug Found
In Another Man's Car
Alfred Ogilbee, a tailor at 404 Broad
way building, bought t a new spotlight
and rug for his automobile, then he
drove the machine to the Washington
Park garage. Sunday morning, he told
the police, he returned to find the spot
light and rug gone and old ones in their
stead. The police investigated and
found his accessories in a machine be
longing to C. E. Etter, Hlllcrest hotel.
Ogilbee told the police, he would swear
out a warrant for the arrest of Ktter.
FIREMAN ON BOAT
SCALDED TO DEATH
Astoria, Oct. 19. While tighten
ing a washout plug on one of the
boilers of the steamer Lurline just
before noon Monday, Charles Wil
son, aged 50, fireman on the boat,
was scalded to death by live steam.
The fire room crew of the Lurline was
engaged In washing the4 boilers. This
work completed, all the plugs had been
replaced in the boilers and Percy Camp
bell, second engineer, was making a
final Inspection to ascertain if every
thing had been replaced and properly
tightened. . - ..
Reaching the forward part of the ves
sel on the starboard side, in the fire
room, Campbell noticed that steam was
escaping from one of the washout plugs.
This had also been discovered by Fire
man Wilson, who was then in the act of
tightening the plug with a large Stiison
wrench.
Realizing the danger, Campbell called
to Wilson to let go. Campbell imme
diately rushed to "pull the fires' and
shut off the steam. Wilson, however.
