ACCUSED OF FRAUD
Charred with obtaining money
under false pretenses in a land deal
at Tillamook. Thad Robinson, for
mer eaahler of the Tillamook Coun
ty bask, now a bond and mbrtae
broker of Portland, was arrested at
hie home. 864 Colonial avenue. Sun
day morning- by Deputy Sheriff
Perkins of Tillamook and Chief
Deputy Sheriff Christofferson of
Portland. A secret indictment was
served last week by the Tillamook
county grand jury.
Unable to erranie for 110.000 bail
bond, Robinson waa forced to remain In
the county Jail Sunday night He will
be taken to Tillamook Monday.
Robinson is indicted on a charge of i
selling X0- 11000 notes to two Tillamook
county cltlsena under false representa
tions. Robinson denied that there was
any irregularity in the financial trans
actions with the two men. The affair
can be quickly adjusted when he returns
to Tillamook, he said Sunday.x
Bitter at the manner of his arrest,
because he was placed in Jail on Sun
day when it was virtually impossible to
arrange ball, Robinson said that his ac
cusers would be exposed on his return
to Tillamook. He branded the affair as
a frame-up.
Robinson said that he had been a
banker for 20 years and this is the first
time that he has been accused of any
Irregularity in business transactions.
"I purchased 160 acres of alfalfa land
which laid within a government irriga
tion project. I sold this land to 12 men
who wanted to get hold of soma alfalfa
land. They paid 69200 to me in cash
and game me 10 61000 notes to Insure
payment of the balance. I sold the notes,
but guaranteed the payment to the two
men who bought them," he said.
"A corporation cannot acquire title
property in an Irrigation district until
the indebtedness is cleared. The group
of men who bought the land understood
this perfectly.
"The purchasers of the notes have my
written assurance that the notes will be
lid. I am financially able to pay oft
the 610.000 even if the corporation does

Vocational Aptitude

gist. In an assembly talk. There ars
plenty of colleges Of the traditional type
with their emphasis upon general cul
ture, upon Greek and Latin' roots, pre
fixes and terminations, but Reed has
an opportunity to serve the community
by cooperating with Industry and busi
ness to produce skilled workers and ex
ecutives. Dr. Basset's talk on vocational apti
tude; was the first of a series designed,
according to Dr. A A. Knowlton, acting
head at Reed,- to-bring about closer re
lationship , between Reed -college ana
Portland- Industries. Succeeding talks
will be given by Portland business men.

Be Instructed in
1 Extension Courses
Military engineering, civil engineering
and electrical engineering are to be
taught In an extension course to mem
ber of the Fifth regiment, Oregon Na
tional Guard. Announcement of this
special feature of the winter's work was
made Saturday by Captain George K.
Sandy, who has arranged a series of lec
tures at the Portland Armory and a gen
eral plan whereby the enlisted men of
