Tigard is one of thfe liveliest cen
ters of building activities In the
Tualatin valley. HX A. Johnson,
manager of the Tigard Lumber com
pany, reports more building materi
als in demand now than at any time
in the past three years.
Among the new buildings recently con
structed Is the Durham schoolhouse,
costing between 87000 and $8000, situated
about 2h miles south of Tigard. Mrs.
Alice Bristol is occupying her new house
near the M. E. church, which is modern
throughout and coBt upwards of 85000.
The residence of Professor W. H.
Hough, northwest of the depot about
half a mile, has recently been completed
and is one of the most substantial and
attractive In Tigard. Fred Mann has
about completed what is thought to be
the most up-to-date residence on the
Capitol highway, about three miles from
Tigard, costing over $6000. N. Q. Light,
in Tigard, has finished a neat modern
cottage at a cost of about 81500, in
cluding labor. O. B. Carson, on Walnut
avenue, has been occupying his new
cottage for some time, but recently sold
it to L. McDonald, it is reported, for
$4000. E. E. Lang is another recent
builder on Walnut avenue, his modern
residence costing around $4000. At
Bonita station, almost a suburb of Ti
gard, E. J. Ericson, John Borstad, J.
W. Allison, A. Koch and others have
built substantial cottage homes. At
Durham P. Jacobson, F. H. Greene and
others have recently built homes. Many
small cottages and temporary buildings
have been built with lumber from the
Tigard yard In the section around it
for a sweep of three and four miles.
"Everybody is building garages
around here,"' said E. A. Johnson of
Tigard, who sells lumber all day and
manes out oins an nignt. "Ana Darns
are being built, too. Little additions
and improvements take up a consider
able total of lumber in a week, and
the demand continues stiff."
Arrangements are being made for an
other social dance with music from
Portland at Burtch's hall Saturday eve
ning, October 23. A serlee of these
dances are to be given, and as .they were

popular this season.

The Red Rock dairy is making Tigard
famous with its output of cheese. The
cheese factory is under the direction of
C. W. West and his sons, and receives
milk from many farmers In the vicinity
of Tigard.
E. E. Munger has almost completed
his new modern home of eight rooms.

store in the Bonsteele cement block and
Is constructing a cement sidewalk from

The First Tigard bank is doing a good
business under the direction of William
Evans, cashier. It now has resources

ing to encourage development and home
building.

of the Tualatin valley, has decided to
retire from sctlve life and hereafter to
reside with his daughter near Scholia.
He has accordingly sold his highly Im
proved home place to Keckla, the con
