There ia So to lOo a doaen difference
between the retail price in soma in
stance of brown colored eggs and the
white stock. '
Consumers who demand a strictly
whiu egg- must be prepared to pay the
higher price demanded, although it is
not believed yat there ia the alightest
difference! in the quality.
For Instance, it la true that New York
desires the white egg. It is willing to
Vy an extreme premium for that color
and of good sle. On the other hand,
Boston and some other markets prefer
the brown egg. '
Because of the fact that most of the
white eggs are being demanded by New
York and carload lots are rolling front
this direction to the Atlantic coast, pre
miums are asked here for that class Of
stock. In fact this is having an elevat
ing 'effect upon the values of all eggs
because the trade nas come to base its
quotations on practically, all stock on
what the limited offerings of white sell
at. t
Pon't forget that sugar Is lower.
Tbe following price rule generally In retail

Adverse conditions have closed many
of the flour mills of the Pacific North
west at a time when business should be
at Its best for the season.
Owing to the inability to find foreign connec
tions for more than a very scant supply of flour
aa wall aa the general enonetary situation, com
bined with the car shortage, few of the mills
are buying wheat for grinding at this time, or
making otters for supplies.
At best the wheat trad i Quiet at the mo
ment with practically the entire business being
done for foreign account.
Effort to interest tbe Orient or Europe in
flour have proven unsuccessful and while it Is
true that light stocks have been (old to Sonth
America and there is a further nibbling from
there, actual business. all told is limited.

Export Call Gives
Wheat a Higher
Close in Chicago
Chicago. Sept. 29. (I. N. S.) Grain
futures averaged higher on the board
of trad today. Good export demand
and buying of futures by seaboard
house helped wheat. Frost over night
and forecasts of more tonight aided corn
and oats benefited from the strength in
other grains. Provisions averaged higher
on support from shorts.
At the close wheat showed net gains
of Vt to 3c, corn of 1VS to 2c, oats of
S to lTc. Provisions advanced 10
to 50c.
Chicago, Sept 29. (L N. 8.) Commis
sion houses were on the selling side when wheat
opened thR morning, but tamed buyers on the
break. Trade waa light and December started
Vie lower to Vie Disbar and Vi to le lower
for March.
Corn opened H 04s higher for September;
He higher to t lower for December, and
Vs V4e higher for May. Buying was scat
tered whil influential selling of December and
September" developed immediately after the
opening.
With scattered commission house buying
which soon died out end let the market sag
to previous close and under. Oats opened Vie
higher. Provisions started steady and quiet to a
shade lower, reflecting weaknesa in hogs.

Reports indicate that while it Is the primary
object of the movement to combine the Alaskan
canning Interests, practically all sections win be
foaroded in the merger. If acceptable to the of
ficials. Reports also Indicate that in the face of the
extreme wesrneas ia the market for lower grade
canned stock, canner are holding back their
supplies from the market la the hope that the
eombtnatioa can go thrown aad alaaar, instead
of lowwr, prioes steasaadwd.
Huge stocks of th 1919 pack of cheaper
grade fish are held by packing interests and it
is said that few of them are today anxious to
sell despite the weakness in the buyia. If
the combination can be formed it ia figured that
they can secure higher price demanded if all
suck together. a
So far aa the better grade canned salmon is
concerned, there is practically none offering
In first hands. It la only In th cheaper atock
that tba market has been depressed.
That they were fortunate in not deciding to

one tenth of the fiah they expected.
