The boy who was to write "Robin Hood" managed to get to England to- at tend Oxford university and after that he studied muxlc In Stuttgart, in Flor ence, In Paris and Vienna. Ha wanted to know the best that the old world could offer, and then he settled down to com pose an opera from the wealth of Amer ican ideals and courage and pluck arid spirit that had been pulsing through his creative brain. While at Oxford he had spent his holidays tramping through the quaint -and beautiful Nottinghamshire country, every village, every brook, every tree of which has Its leg-end of the ffreat Anglo Saxon ballad hero Robin Hood.
