Accused Patrolmen; Face Mayor 0v6r Hedderley's Killing Patrolmen W. D. Morris and E. M. Jackaon, who were recently euspended by Mayor Baker following ,the fatal shooting of Robert W. Hedderley while federal and police officers were attempt ing to arrest him on bootlegging charges. were examined before Mayor Baker this afternoon. Gilbert of Portland and Wiyiam 1L Hunt of San FTanclaco and District Judge Charles Wolverton of Portland took the beijch, but Judge Wolverton left before the ar gument started, aa he waa disqualified, having ruled previously, on the same case. Judge Gilbert said he and Judge Hunt ' would hear the arguments and submit them to a third disinterested judge before rendering a decision. Only this one case will be heard in Portland. The court moves Saturday to San Fran-' cisco for the October term. , Stores Dealing in ; " Army " Goods Not Run by Government Attention of the better business bu reau of the Portland Ad club haa been called by Major Frank P. Tlngley of thq quartermasters corp'a to the fact that the government is no longer oper ating any retail stores in Oregon. Ail stores in Portiarid which operate under the namea of United Statea army or navy and advertise govemmnt goods for aale are now being privately oper ated. Major Tlngley said. The quartermaster's retail store at Fifth and Pine Streets paaaed out of gov ernment control on August 7. United Statea Attorney Lester W. Humphreys and District Attorney Wal ter Evans have been asked to ascertain whether the local merchants are violat ing any -federal or state law by using the word army in their advertising. Additional Bonds Asked Salem. Sept. 24. The -Gf ants Pass lr rlgation district has made application to the State Irrigation Securities for the certification of an additional $400, 000 block of bonds. A total of $290,000 baa already been issued, and this has been used in construction work. The district comprises approximately 7000 acres near Oranta Pass.
