Oregon Too Modest
In Claims for State,
Avers V.-President
Salem, Sept II. Oregon, ever long on
modesty and short on state conscious
aeaaa, must needs shed a little of the) for
mer and strengthen the latter if It la go
ing to keep pace with its neighbors on
the north and south. President P. L.
Campbell of the University of Oregon
told members of the Salem Commercial
club at luncheon Monday noon.
While California and Washington have
been capitalising their climate, their
scenery and their natural resources,
Oregon has been sitting modestly by
saying little or nothing, he said, and the
people of Oregon are too strongly In
clined to an apologetic mood for the
good of the state. Oregon's abundant
rains, for which the people of the state
are wont to apologise to newcomers,
form one of Oregon's greatest assets,
showering the land with millions of dol
lars of wealth annually, he said.
Oregon. President Campbell said. Is a
vast empire entirely self-supporting, but
the state's 'greatest resource lies In Its
people, a well read, highly Intelligent
population, absolutely safe and sane and
dependable In any emergency. This
state, he pointed out, has more accred
ited high school! than has California,
with a vastly larger population.
The University of Oregon, President
Campbell said, la facing the opening of
the new year wlfh brightest prospects
in its history.

To combat the Him
The purpose U to combat film on teeth.
Film is that viscous coat you feeL It
clings to teeth, enters crevices and stays.
Old methods .of teeth cleaning did not
end it So month after month, on count
less teeth, it may do ceaseless damage.
Most tooth troubles are now traced to
film. And those troubles, despite the
tooth brush, have been constantly in
creasing. So film-removal is nowadays
considered all-important.
It dims and destroys
It ii the film-coat that discolors, no
the teeth. Film is the basis of tartar. It
holds food substance which ferments
and forms acid. It holds the add in con
tact with the teeth to cause decay.
Millions of germs breed In It They,
with tartar, are the chief cause of pyorrhea.
All statements approved by authorities
So dental science has for years sought
wsys to fight that film. Efficient ways
have now been found and proved by con
vincing tests. Authorities approve and
advise them. And1 the teeth of millions
are already being protected by them.
The methods are combined in a denti

Quick, visible results
The benefits of Pepsodent are quick

every time you use it Within ten days
you'll realize well how much this new
way means.
One ingredient is pepsin. Another
multiplies the starch digestant in the
saliva, to digest starch deposits that
cling. The alkalinity of the saliva is mul
tiplied also, to neutralize the acids which
cause tooth decay.
Two factors directly attack the film.
One of them keeps teeth so highly pol
ished that film cannot easily adhere.
The film itself is twice a day combated
In most effective ways.
Everyone should kqow
Everybody, young and old, should
