The fish trade la beginning- to chanare

to bur foodstuffs when It Is cheap.
Wednesday there was only one firm sell
ing; thia 10c aalmon, but today there are
many firms Tilling- to let the public
have what It wants, and at a price It
can afford to pay.
Thia aalmon 1 wi.at la commonly
called "fall Chinook." It ts not of bright
color as Is the spring- caught Chinook,
but the fish Is of good edible quality and
the flesh la firm. It la very good for
canning.
Just how long the blgr run will con
tinue is not known, therefore those that
desire cheap fish for canning: had bet
ter lone no time In the purchase.
Brighter colored salmon Is being sold
retail at 20c a pound by firms unwilling
to profiteer. There Is not the slightest
excune to charge more than 20c a pound
for the best salmon at this time and
consumers are advleed that they can
purchase it at that price.

ARE NOW ON SALE
The first cranberries of the 1920 sea
son have made their appearance In the
Cortland trade.
Twenty boxes of the finest cranberries
that ever arrived Hera during the initial
marketidg have been received by L 8.
Martin, selling representative it the
Cranberry Q rowers' association.
The stock cams from the J. S. Dentnger
boga near Baside sad were aot only of ex
cellent quality, but of good size snd color.
The stock told to the wholesale trade at $8 a
box, - which Beans a fraction mora to . re
tailer. According to word reoeivsd from Mr. Dell
inger the picking has started very slowly. The
crop pruspecu ars about aa previously mentioned;
some of the growing interests figuring upon
20.000 boxes for the lower rirsr districts, while
others ssy that a 25.000 bog crop will be
gathered.
The crop has appeared on the market earlier
than norms!.

WHEAT TS ARRIVING AT
ASTORIA rOB EXPORTING
Astoria, Or., Sept. 18. Announcement was
sosd today that the new erop of wheat is ba-
S.nning to arrire at the port terminals in fsirly
nod quantities. There are now approximately
4500 long tons of wheat on atorart while 11
eerloads arrived yesterday and nins more today.
All this grain is consigned to Kerr. Oifford eV
Co. or to the Pacific Grain company and is to
be shipped lor expert in the immediate future.
During the past esaon 1304 carloads of spproxti
mately 1,600.000 bushel of wheat were handled
at the Astoria terminals. Space in the elevator!
end war booses which ha already been reserved
show that at least 4.000,000 bushels will be han
dled there thia lesson.
Offerings of other traffic art) also being re
ceived end plant are now being made to place
the windows and doors in the computed por
tion of the warehouse on Pier 3. so it will be
