Members of
Scotti Casts
PORTLAXlD music lovers are much In
terested Jn the coming- of the Scotti
Grand Opera; company on September 30
and October 1 and 2. This sup'erb organ
ization, founded by the celebrated An
tonio Scotti, one of the world's greatest
baritones, will appear at the Heillg
theatre under the management of Steers
A Coman and the Elwyn Concert bureau,
and the three nights' engagements of the
company, formed from the personnel of
tie Metropolitan Opera company, will be
a brilliant one from every point of view.
The company carries a large orchestra
and a diorus of 40 selected from the best
In their line' and the conductors are
Gennaro Papj and Carlo Peronl of Met
ropolitan fame, with Wilfrid Pelletier
and Ulacomo Spadoni as assistant con
ductors. The repertoire for; the engagement will
be as follows: Thursday. September SO,
"Tosca," witli Scotti, Kaston and Cham
lee ; Friday, October 1, "La Boheme,"
with Harroldi Sundelius, Martino, Roth
ier, Koselle ; Saturday, October 2,
"L'Oracolo" and "Pagliaccl." with Per
alta. Itothier, Scotti. Martino, Koselle,
Kingston, Picco, Evans.
There is said to be no sweeter singer
wljh the famous Metropolitan Opera
company today than Marie Sundelius,
the Swedish soprano, one of the noted
singers who Will be beard with the com
pany here. She sings with an exquisite
purity and an effortless ease which
makes her a first favorite wherever she
Is heard. She has been so long in
America that she Is today regarded as
an American - artist, white for the last
half dozen years she has been entrusted
with some of the most Important roles
in the range; of opera at New York's
famous opera house. Her Musetta In
"La Boheme"!; is one- of her best known
impersonations, and critics contend that
no one can Tsing the lovely waltz song
with greater effect, while her Nedda in
"Pagliacci" has proved her capable of
tragic intensity when called upon to dis
play the stronger emotionB. It speaks
well for Mr. Scotti's enterprise that he
should have two prima donnas In his
company of j the musical stature and
superb attainments of Madame Sunde
lius and Miss Easton. Miss .Eastern will
be heard In "Tosca" on the opening
night.
