Tho navy department will contest more'than 75 per cent of the clalma filed by oil companies and individu als upon lands in the huge reserves of the navy In Southern California, it was learned authoritatively. Of the more than 100 claims which i he navy department estimates have been filed at the department of the In terior not more" than 25 or 30 will be granted leases under the tertna of the bll! without a stiff contest on the part of the department. The other 75 or more claims will be fought on the grounds of fraud. Tha fraud Is of vary-In decrees according- to department officials, but in all cases It is sufficient to deprive the claimants of any rights to produce from the reserves. Some of the claim! are filed, department officials say, where it Is known that the wells are not produc ing, some are alleged frauds against the. original locations and others are allaced to have been accomplished through the use of dummy drillers. , . . . . . Chinese Diplomats To Change Places; Sye to Come Here Washington. Kept. 7. Dr. Wellington Koo. the Chinese ambassador In Wuh Ington, and Sake Alfred Sye, Chinese ambassador in Tendon, will exchange posts. It was learned at the Chinese embassy. Dr. Sye was the first Chinese ambas sador to graduate from Cornell uni versity and has never ceased to be in terested In the development of political, uncial and economic conditions In the United States. He will arrive In Wash ington around Christmas. Dr. Koo will remain here until that time. Dr. Pye Is one of the youngest diplo mats at the Court of SI. James. He feels particularly friendly to the United states on account of its stand regarding Shantung. Speed King Injured At Centralia Races; Machine Is Wrecked Centralia, Wash., Sept. 7. Oscar Klmbro, driving the Kimbro special in the racing car event of the Southwest Washington Fair grounds auto races, sustained serious injuries late Monday afternoon when his car skidded and plunged through two fences. Kimbro was rounding the north turn at about 0 miles sn hour, when the car Jumped acroes the track, through the railing surrounding the track and into the high board fence which surrounds the grounds. Claire Loughgren, Kim bro' mechanician, was badly bruised but sustained no broken bones. -The machine was wrecked. Sept. 7. (I. N. 8.) The Typhoon, a 15-ton yawl, sailed by a crew of three men. arrived at the Isle of Wight from America, after a record run of 15 days and nine hours. The ship sailed from Raddeck, Nova Scotia.
