Blue Damson plums hav mads their
appearance on the market, Like a few
otter fruits, this one has a very short
season. The plums are on the market
one day and g-otia the next. Demand for

this season, owing to the hifh price of

Crahapples appear to be scarce, and
only those who purchased their supplies
at the, first of the season have all they
want Wholesalers were endeavoring
Friday tp obtain more crabs from farm
ers in order to fill standing- orders left
by -grocery stores.
i - A few strawberries and blackberries
are being- offered, but the prices asked
are high, as the, season Is about over.
Watermelons are quits cheap for this
season of the year. The market is well
supplied with , plenty -of good quality
melons. The colder weather has lessened
the demand considerably.
The tail end of , the California canta
loupe season is in sight and within a
few days all stocks will be cleaned up.
The market is now depending upon
Yakima cantaloupes, which have -pink
meat and possess a far superior flavor
to the southern product
Plum season is at its peak. Almost
any variety of plum can be found in the
market now at fairly reasonable prices.
Eggs are scarce and higher prices are
anticipated after the first of the week.
Chickens are also scarce and high
priced. The butter market is firm, having-
; shown two t advances during the
week. ; -.-t .
Oregon pears are arriving on the mar
ket, but as yet the price; is high. Cheap
pearsfor canning purposes are looked
for this season. ; 4

been given the local post of the Ameri
can Legion to prepare a tract of land
in the residence section as a public play
ground for children. The Legion took
up the duty of raising funds for appar
atus. More than $1000 was expended In
this way, and the apparatus will arrive
soon and be installed. The legion mem
bers established the playgrounds as a
gift to the city.
