week. This pries will fluctuate up or down with ths monetary
situation. : . s . .
At ths best this la scarcely a pries that ths famous fruit of
the Pacific Northwest will pay to ship abroad. Counting the
huge ocean and rail transportation, it means ths lowest price
to growers that has been received for many seasons.
At the best it seems scarcely advisable tor facine North

' On the face of thlntrs at the moment it looks like a Tow appls price all around

this season, but later conditions may bring some improvement, t
The Pacific Northwest will be hit very hard this season because of ths higher
freight rate. The rate waa already so high that the competition with eastern
markets wa always in favor of the eastern growers. i- --
.The Pacific coast apple markets must be more thoroughly developed than
formerly. This mesni that growers should try to put up sv rood apple for family
use at a minimum of expense. : Fancy packages are beyond ths Average consumer,
therefore If ths grower Wants to get ths best results he must cater to the average
person. - -1 ; . . -. -.. . I . - - .
It is not the rich peipls that must buy-apples in order to clean up the crop.
A few fancy packages will go a long ways in satisfying their requirements. The

Wool Trade Is
Still Erratic in
The Boston Market
. Boston, Aug. 21. Now and again a fairly
sisabl lot of wool is reported sold by th dealers
along Summer street, but for th most part
the demand is still of s retail mature, i Manu
facture cenerally are confining their purchases
to sample lots. Where th larger sale havs
occurred frequently it hs been . at the expense
of values, but not always. A few sals have
been 1 made during th past week or two in
which prices were dictated by th dealers. Such
Instances hV been those involving some special
lot of wool, however, and the price paid is not
really typical of th market- Altogether it is
fair to say that th market is still erratic.
Ths mills sre moving with the utmost caution.
They cannot afford to forget that th - present
tariff is conductive to large imports of foreign
goods snd so assurance must bs mad .doubly
sure, if poasibiiV before good or put upon th
market and priced for another season. To b
sure, soms goods have been shown, but ss they
hsvs not attracted ths favorable attention) hoped
for. the coarse of action which ths leadinS factor
in the manufacture of wool will take nrnaia
to he seen. , At th present writing, 'it i
believed that . the American Woolen - company
will take some decisive step by th middle of
September but th' management is not committed
to sny definite line of action.
The receipts tor ths week wers : DcaneSUe.
