Crab apples are now arriving; - In
abundance. The season for supplies Is
now in full swing- and within a few
days the helgrht of production will likely
be- reached. ?
Consumers are advised , that the prtce
of , crab apples today is at the bottom
for the season, or within a mere fraction
of It t ;, -
Those that want crab apples for pre
servinar should lose no time In retting
their requirements, as the quality Is now
at; its best and the price Is practlcaally
the syne as during; normal seasons.
One of the very peculiar, features of
the crab apple market is that the gen
eral public usually - puts off its pur
chases so long that practically no sup
plies are available.
There are . several varieties of crab
apples and consumers will save them
selves much worry If they will tell the
retailer what they propose to do with
supplies. Then the proper variety can
be secured from the wholesale trade.
The following price are av-rag one eon

One Crop of Wheat
At Moscow Nearly
Pays for Ranch
Moscow, Idaho, Aug. 1. The first new wheat
of tbe sesson to reach Moscow came lit Friday
from the farm of W. C. Bleamaster. Just east of
town. It was delivered to the warehouse of the
Vir'hite-Dulaney company, and tested 69 pounds
to' the bushcL It waa Jenkins club and yielded
40 bushels per acre. It waa sold for 82.11 per
bushel, being decked two per cent for smut. The
crop will bring 884.40 per acre. 1
There are several Interesting facta connected
with, thia sale. Mr. Bleamaster wa physical di
rector and coach of the University of Idaho for
several years. lie became interested in agricul
ture . and bought a well improved farm of 60
acres half a anile- east of the city limits two
years ago, paying 86000 or f 100 per acre. H
waa refused $200 per acre and the wheat crop
will lack but 813.40 per acre of paying for tbe
larl upon which it waa grown.
t Mr. Bleamaster resigned his position with the
university last spring and has since been devoting
his entire time and attention to hia farming oper
ation. He mitka a number of cows and sella the
emam In Moscow and ia making good profits from
this. , He finds farming much more profitable
than coaching football and track teams and says
be get plenty of "physical culture" in his farm
ing operations. He value hia land at 8250 tier
acre, an advance of 150 per cent ever the price
paid two years ago and the crops produced have
yielded a nic profit 1 He has a fine yield of peaa
and other grain on his farm in addition- to the
wheat just threshed.

Depression was general In the wheat
trade at tha week's opening; in all lead
ing: markets. Reason for tshei decline was
attributed to the fact that foreigners
have not stayed in the market longer
than sufficient time to test values.
There 1 no usa donying the fact that the
British buying commission is going to have 6
big influence upon the price, of wheat for export
thia season. Notwithstanding ' the apparent
shortage ot wheat . in tha; big Euro
pean market,, the high 1 price ia ex
pecteed to keep the demand within narrow limit
especially aa prevailing valtte are already so
high that the grasn is extremely high priced
when it crosses the AUanoc. ( 1
While deliveries of new crop wheat in the
Pacific Northwest are very limited aa yet farm
ers are offering supplies on contract rather free
ly, but the trade is not disposed to bid up until
it sees what it is getting. -

TRYING
FOR HIGH PRICES
By Broaden j Wall
New Tork, Aug. is; Professional
traders and banking interests have
been working together the last few
days ta an effort to secure a higher
level of prices. The professionals
want this higher level as a bast for
future short sales, j The 4 bankers
want stocks higher sd they may get
beter prices for the lame ducks they
are C8tfrrtnr--ari-ying in flocke. i
Not in 20 years have-so many busi
ness concerns been absolutely at the,,
mercy of their bankers as now. This
combined, effort hat succeeded to such
an extent that the banking Interests
will be able to sell out tkt a profit the
stocks theyv took about a week ago to
prevent what" was; rapidly developing
into a panto, !
It is entirely possible that there-may
be a further slump In the market, but
there are stocks selling for lens than
the value of their quick assets. One oil
ntock sold the other day at lens than.,

There are several selling for only double
their 1910. gross earnings. Xumerous

POINTS AT THE OPEl-TJTO
New Tork. As. 16. (L N. 8.) August
cotton opened 100 points lower this morning
and other positions started at a decline of 12
to 27 points. Unfavorable European news and
heaviness in securities were , bearish influencing
factors.
Business waa not active and tradera appeared
to be hesitating. '
New Orleans and other southern centers sold
here and there waa a good deal of switching be
tween months. Fluctuations after the start
were irregular. .
In the last hour the cotton market ruled vwj
weak under heavy general aelling.
The close was easy at a net decline ot 78 to
135 points, i
