Becomes Bride
Last Thursday
ONE of the - pretty midsummer wed
dings was that of Miss Ava Owen
who became the bride of Lee H. M. Dur
ham Thursday evening at the, home of
the bride's aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs.
K. K. Patterson in East Sixty-second
street. The service was read by the Rev.
D.. C Bevan. Preceding the ceretnony
Mrs. Emmet Rathbura sang the bridal
hymn. The wedding march was played
by Miss JHyrt Henley. I v
For the bridal gown a gtrtlSh model of
accordion plaited georgette 7 crepe
trimrrfed with lace was chosen. A ban
deaux of pearls and orange blossoms en
circled the 'headdress from which the
wedding. veil fell in graceful folds.. The
bouquet was a shower of orchids. Miss
Dorothy Owen, sister of the brie, wore
a t rock of ivory silk and white net and
carried a bouquet of pink sweet peas.
Little Marie Minsker as flower girl led
the bridal; procession carrying a basket
of pin rose buds. Frank Owen, was the
bridegroom's attendant. 1
-A 'buffet supper followed' the cere-'
mony when Mrs. B. M. Henley and Miss
Mildred Hurd cut the ices. Assisting
about the ; rooms were Mrs. R. D. Wer
schul. Miss Jean Bates Miss Pauline
MacLean and Miss Edith Owen;
The bride is a daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. W. M. Owen.1 She was a student
at the Oregon Agricultural college where
she' won the Waldo prise for freshmen
women last year. She is a member of
Sigma Kappa sorority. Mr; Durham was
graduated from O. A. C, and was a
popular student interested in all college
activities. ! Mr. and Mrs. j Diirham will
make their home In Southern California.

will sail for Honolulu, where they will

Mr. and Mrs. JJ F. Ryan of 606 Haw
thorne avenue departed for Seattle -Saturday
morning. They will make the
trip by motor, stopping 1 in Tacoma to
visit friends and relatives.. After a visit
of a few days in the Sound cities, Mr.
and Mrs. Ryan will leave for Alaska,
where they will spend a month enjoying
the scenic beauty of the northland
They expect to return home in about
six weeks.
Misa Elward Webster of San Antonio,
Texas, is a visitor in the city at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. J. Hampton, who
are spending the summer at Jenniners
Lodge.. During her stay in ihe city Miss
Webster 1 has been much entertained.
Miss Berbadine Kane was hostess for

week and; this week Mr. and Mrs. Hamp

R. & N. Employes' club given onthe
floating pavilion Swan recently was one
bf the most enjoyable functions given
by the organization. The August party
of the club will be a similar event and
will be given on the Swan next Friday

The European species Is the largest
and most beautiful of the lynx family,
the fur being long, dense and lus
trous, of exquisite chestnut brown
diversified with black ,
The Canadian' and! Alaskan mem
bers of the fan)iy are of a dark gray
across 'the back, reddish gray on
the. sides and lighter on the under
parts. The markings resemble spots
and dashes and are of black' and

These latter species - are ' usually
dyed a rich deep brown -or black, and
present a magnificent appearance
when treated In this manner.
It would be a fine! thing and a re
markable one were we able to say
that lynx is a fur . that has escaped
Imitation, but unfortunately it is not

The lowly hare can be treated and
dyed in such a way as. to crudely re
semble lynx,-ami many dollars of llle-
fritimnte profit have found their way
nto the faithless dealer's pocket by
the deception. . j -
A finer substitute, arid therefore a
more dangerous one. is none other
than' our American raccoon, treated"
with a dose of dye. Like many other
imitations, it would hot be dishonest
if a dealer, where fairly good skins
are used, would show the genuine
and then the substitute AS A SUB
STITUTE each at its proper pricing
And leave It to the customer to decide.
But there's no long profit in that sort
of a deal, so the faithless vigorously
continue their misrepresentation.
