Bad luck struck btoth the Ka stern
' Ocean and the Angeles.' Th former had
tjome Icjose wheat in the bilges and it
was necessary to discharge a portion of
lier cargo. The Angeles lost a propeller
at sea and has' been In port since the
latter part of June awaiting the casting
and delivery of new blades for the wheel.
Following cloie on the clearance of
the steamships Eastern Ocean and An
geles, the steamship Montague wtll clear
Wenday for; the Orient with a general
cargo. She will be dispatched in the
regular service being maintained by the
Admiral line.

during July totaled more than $50,000.Q0
feet of lumber, accoraing to oinciai
' clearance figures. Of this amount over
30,000.000 feet went out by rail. Rail
shipments. from Aberdeen and Hoqulam
during the month stood at about an even
figure, each city shipping in the neigh
borhood of 12,000,000 feet. Cosmopolis
shipped out S.000,000 feet by rail. Water
shipments from Grays Harbor cities were
over 25,000,000 feet. Foreign shipments
during the month were especially heavy,
amounting- to over 7,000,000 feet.
NEW CHARTERS ANNOUNCED
FOR LUMBER TO WEST COAST
New charters announced for Columbia
river loading of lumber for the west
coast are the steamship Lake Oebhart,
1704 tons, now en route from Honolulu
to San 'Francisco, and the barkentine
La Hina, 994 tons, now en route from
Levuka for San Francisco. Both craft
have been fixed by W. R. Grace & Co.
Direct destination of the steamship has
not been announced, but the sailing vesr
sel will-proceed to Callao and the rate
announced Is $30.

the St. Joe, Idaho, forest are "spread
ing fast" and "easing up lots of Val
uable green timbejr" according to re
ports given out bj government forest

the telephone.
"Five new fires have also broken out
In the McGee district, about 40 miles
northeast of Coeuf d'Alene." declared

wheat burned on the John Kinder ranch,
near Preacott, Wash., the blase starting
fiom the exhaust of the car Kinder, was
driving through the grain. Kinder had
a narrow escape and the car was badly
damaged. I
In the vicinity df the North Fork of
Clearwater river there is a shortage of
pack horses to cirry supplies to fire
fighters. ( Fires in the Kootenai forest,
on the border, are being brought under
control, according) to the report of the
forest service. Np new (ires are re
ported and the situation is better. Of
ficials fear the Canadian Kootenai for
est fire may cross jthe border again into
North. Central Montana. Great Falls,
Mont.; reports that men are being sent
to Glacier National park to fight any
fires which may stmrt in the Helena dis
trict. A drenching rain- extinguished
many fires last plight.
; Fire at Inntlngton
Baker, Aug. 7. -j- Huntington railroad
yards were the scene of a big fire two
nights ago when six or eight outfit cars
belonging to the Oregon Short Line were
destroyed by flames. The origin of the
fire and the extent of the damage done
by the blase has not reached Baker, but
tha ears were totally destroyed.
