SACRAMENTO. Cal July 23. -The
fastest inine-lnnlng baseball game
ver played In Sacramento was staged
Thursday between the Portland Beavers
and Bill Rodgers Tippers. The locals
won, 1 to 0, In a regular pitchers' battle.
Samuel Rosa did the heaving; for the
Oregonlans. while BUI Prough waa on
the mound for the winners, and all the
time It required to finish the match was
one hour and five minutes. The lone
marker came in tha fourth inning, and
H wasn't Rons fault wholly. An error
by Paddy Slglln put the star Beaver left
bander in hot water. It happened this
way: ' .
After Compton had been retired. Buddy
Ryan, who used to draw his pay envelope
from the McCredles, singled to left-center
and Sheehan. who followed, waa giv
en life when Slglln bobbled. his grounder,
allowing; Ryan to go to third. Grover
then pulled a squeeze play, Ryan com
ing home with the only run of the came.
Orr popped out to Spranger, ending; the
inning. . .. .
For six Innings Prough held his op
' jxnents without a hit, and in the seventh
liaise! made a ; clean single to center.
, Portland secured two hits off Prough,
the other coming in the eighth, when
Sutherland, batting for .McMulleny sin
gled to right. Ross waa Just as affec
tive as Prough when it came to allowing
hit, for he gave but three. In the first
inning Kopp was given credit for an in
field hit. but it could have been scored
as an error just as easily, it waa
thought.
Ryan's single came In the fourth, as
above related, while In the eighth Bill
Prough singled, but that was all.
Prough struck out five men. three of
tliem coming in the third.,
