was arrested late Monday afternoon by

charge of conducting a gambling game,

the city jail. T. H. McGlll was irrested
on a charge of gambling, and later re
leased on a ball of $150. John Goodey
was arrested as a spectator. ; He was re
leased on a ball of $100. .

Convicted of Abasing Aon Late Mon
day Municipal Judge Rossman i deter
mined that ' W. Karnes. St, i Johns
blacksmith, must serve at least part of
the six months jail sentence pronounced
against him earlier in the day upon his
conviction of a charge of abusing " his
13-year-old son, Wesley. . An a result
Karnes' sentence will not be suspended,
but he will be required to serve at least
20 days before consideration of Its sus

for judgment of $38,470 from the Jacob
sen Construction company, to cover per
sonal injuries s received : while working
on a pile- driver was disallowed George
Gravell Moratay by Federal Judge R. S.
Bean. The judge held that the accident
was not an admiralty case and could not
be tried in ' federal court. The hammer
of a pile driver struck Gravell on the
arm and severed it at the wrist while he
was working on the Willamette river
near Oregon City. . ;

Indictment Against.
Ex-Soldier Dismissed
The-' fedral grand Jury Indictment re
turned against F. A. Hurst, charged with
breaking into a forest ranger's cabin,
was dismissed by Federal Judge Bean
Monday. . upon the recommendation of
Assistant United States Attorney Lusk.
Hurst is an overseas veteran. . The in
dictment liad such a profound effect
upon the young mart. Lusk said, that he
saw no use in punishing him further.
Hurst has spent some, time in Jail await
