CAR
MAKES
GREAT SPEED DASH
Templar Four Runs from New
York to Chicago in 26 Hours,
50 Minutes.
,- The. . past week seems to' have
been a record breaking period for
a number of cars, and the Templar
Four s has come in for Its share of
the honors. .
Driven by "CannonbaU Baker, one of
the scintillating lights in the motorcycle
sky and one-time Bolder of the Three
Flag record from Blaine to Tia Juana
in a side car, the little car fled over the
distance from New Tork to Chicago in
26 hours B0 minutes, elapsed time. Re
ports" coming to W. W Wray, president
f the' Wray Mtor Car company, local
Templar' distributors, haveit that an
excellent showing was also made tn econ
omy in oil and gas on the run. -
The time of 26 hours and 60 minutes
lowers ' considerably the former record
between these two polnti, the differen
tial in time being put at $ hours and
10 minutes. ' :ii - '
The run is all the more remarkable, ac
cording to Wray, -when jit is bdne in
mind that the road from New York to
Chicago has been literally torn up by
cars and trucks carrying tons upon tons
of,, freight -over the v stretch during the
past -winter and spring. A number of
towns and counties are doing construe
tion work on the route, and Baker re
ports that fully 110 miles, of the dis
tance was made over muddy detour reads
where traveling was terrific t. t .
The total distance for the run was 992
miles, and of this distance Baker drove
the car. through 230 miles of, rain, 200
miles of fog and put up with indifferent
roads .on 110 miles of detours and muJ.
The car averaged a speed of 36.9 miles
pee, nour. ana. successfully , dodged . the
speea cops-ail along the route.
i "J don't ; believe any speed officer
would have had the heart to stop , the
Car," said Baker, 'it was running along
so nicely. That .run was one of the
worst drives I have been over, if hot
the worst, and . under the! most unfavor
able conditions. The - car performed In
a remarkable manner."

There is no longer any confusion -between true
eexmbrny and false economy. The former takes
account of values, while the latter cymrcms itself
only with cheapness of price, '
Such exxniderations as beauty, comfort and cturdy
