In the state prison imposed by
Judge I. . F. Conn upon ' his convic
tion by a Jury on a charge of man
slaughter. The supreme court this
morning; m an opinion written by
Justice Bennett, affirms the decree
of the lower court from which Zul
lig had appealed.

Roseburg, June 22. Glenn "Duncan of
Myrtle Creek, released from custody aft
er having beaten Lafe Brumbaugh of
Myrtle Creek, is charged with passing a
Worthless check for a small amount oh
the Umpqua hotel for board and lodging
and, theft of an automobile belonging to
the Uhllg Electric company. He was
arrested in Ashland. While being re
turned handcuffed, Duncan leaped from
the car and escaped in the brush of

' Salem, June' 22. If Milton Schwartz,
alleged degenerate, lunatic, who was
released from custody by a New York
city court on the promise of relatives
to - bring him to Oregon, ever reaches
this state he will be Immediately taken
Into custody and examined as to his
sanity. Orders to this effect were Is
sued by Governor Olcott Monday after
noon, in a letter addressed to 'District
Attorney. Evans of Multnomah county
and authorities In other counties are
asked to aid In apprehending Schwarts

Schwarts, 'according to press ; dis

York city where, it Is alleged, he had
attacked little girls. He was about to

son county's pioneer women. Mrs. Mar
garet Anne Matney, the mother of 17
children, died at her ranch home in Ap
plegate, -Sunday. She was born March
24, 1MB,, and. crossed the plains with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bdyd Maupln,
when she was 9 years old, settling in
Kugene. In 1862, after her marriage to
- Carrol Mstney, they located on the
tanch In Applegate. .

Murphy. Mrs. Arthur Lewis of Grants

previous occasions for having morphine
in her possession.

experience as an automobile driver.

ence of at least' five days and the pay
ment of 25 cents. -
